Last weekend I made spicy pickled beets.

Tonight, grilled venison and jalapeños with pan fried golden beets and garden tomatoes.

I've been curing a portion of pork butt for buckboard bacon for a week. It's on the smoker now.

Cool...I learn new stuff every day! I probably more knowledgeable than most of your average Joe's when it comes to food...but not compared to you folks! I've never heard of "buckboard" bacon before. I had to Google it. Sounds delish! Do you try to fry it crisp like regular bacon or serve it more like cured ham?

We had tostadas. No pictures - a tostada looks like a tostada, LOL! Refried beans, Mexican shredded cheese, seasoned homeground beef, homemade pico de gallo, shredded lettuce, La Victoria green taco sauce. Washed down with a homebrewed SNPA. Yum and yum!

Turkey Lollipops and Chicken Halves.

I used Amazing Ribs Disney brine and Cajun Shake. The Chicken was brined in Mad Hunky Poultry Brine and Chef Merito Chicken Seasoning.

The turkey legs started like this

...and ended like this

...so I headed outside

Dusted and on the 22" WSM with a direct fire. No water pan...

I love that color

...had some corn and sweet taters to go along with the birds

Unfortunately, the Cowboys game came on and the photos shoot stopped there.

The turkey legs, did you score around the bone and then used pliers to remove the tendons? I love legs but dealing with tendons can be a pain, need to give this a try.

Apple Wood Smoked Bacon and Cheddar Angus burgers from King Soopers.

I hate hamburgers! I can honestly say that I haven't had more than four this whole year, including this one. Yet, a few years ago one of the fast food chains had an Angus burger on their menu and I tried one and like it. Today, while the wife was shopping she came home with a pack of these. Asked me to cook them!!

Slow cooked them in a "Foreman" type grill that had a flat top and bottom. Even after a piece of corn and side of potato salad, I was ready for another hamburger.

Had a little potluck bonfire at a co-workers saturday night with a growler & bottle share (El Lupulo Libre, Double Trouble, Speedway Stout). There were going to be hotdogs and chili soup, so I brought a cheesy chili dip, which doubled as an excellent topping for the dogs! One pound pork, some southwest seasoning (penzeys), a can of black beans, cilantro, green onions, 8 oz of medium cheddar (for the cheese sauce), and some salsa & half a garden salsa pepper (from the farmers market). While it was cheesy, it wasn't cheesy enough imho. Next time I would double the amount of cheese.

Also bought 6 huge "reject" tomatoes for $0.50 / piece, so I cut the bad bits off and reduced those down into a pizza sauce with some fresh lemon & genovese basil, thyme, and oregano from my garden, with a couple cloves of garlic, salt, and 1/2 tsp of crushed red chili's (indian grocery).

I bought one of these Jamaican Chocolate Habaneros, anyone have any recommendations? I was thinking chili, but on second thought I might just make a double batch of the breakfast stout BBQ sauce tonight, with this plus a fresh pineapple for pulled pork later in the week.

Just one should be about right for a BBQ sauce... I keep a bag of these guys and scotch bonnets in the freezer.... Anytime you make any kind of stew/soup/sauce you can throw one or more in whole and then fish it out at the end. Gives you a great flavor with just a bit of heat.

Well, I was going to dice it up and put it in my BBQ suace in anticipation it was going to be quite hot! But from what you're saying, perhaps I should just cut it open, let it cook with the sauce, then remove it? I'm adding the pineapple in addition to the apples to help counteract the heat.

For bbq sauce I would dice it up as long as you can handle your heat and you are making more than a couple of cups of sauce. If it comes out too hot just make more and dilute

Stopped by the grocery to pick up a few things for pulled pork & the BBQ sauce, but ended up getting enough to make 4 different meals... coming up, pizza (bacon, pepperoni, black olives), pulled pork, and homemade mac & cheese... tonight, made a quick and dirty 1 lbs meatloaf with jalapenos, ground beef, and green onions; ketchup / dijon / honey / worcestershire sauce glaze.

LOL BrewBama - the Cowboys should never, EVER trump pictures from the smoker! Those turkey legs look awesome. Everything else too.

Melana, that apple pie is a thing of absolute beauty. However can you bear to cut into it? ;)

We went to the somewhat-local apple farm yesterday and brought back 3 boxes and 2 5# bags of apples - Fujis, Pinovas, Winesaps, and two other kinds whose names currently escape my not-enough-caffeine-yet morning brain. They'll all find themselves in the dehydrator as sliced apple rings OR the applesauce pot with Splenda and cinnamon, then canned up for our future enjoyment. I love apple season!
