Paname Brewing Company

I first went to France in 2018 for work. I had recently started my beer tourism as it was about a year after I started brewing myself, although I had already amassed a sizable quantity of glassware from various US (and literally a couple Canadian) breweries. Going to the Continent for the first time I really wanted to find some craft breweries.

Not knowing much of French brewing tradition I did a little research and found that what was true of most European brewing is that it was mostly done in the country side for local drinkers (insert that it wasn't safe to drink the water here). Most beer produced today in France isn't produced in France.
I of course start my trip out in the country, settle into our chateau (castle) for next two days and my travel addled brain orders a beer at around 10:30 AM. Don't worry for my safety, all they had was Leffe and Heineken. Pretty much everywhere I looked, and even in city. It was a vast craft desert that my Seattle attuned mind couldn't understand.

Fast forward five days and I'm on my own in Paris, meetings all adjourned. At the time I could find two breweries close enough to the Metro to get to: BAPBAP and Paname. BAPBAP was more central, but their hours were indecipherable. So I headed up to the Canal and went to check out Paname.

This is six plus later now, but when I found it again the only thing that appeared to change was the weather. First time was summer. It was hot, uncomfortable and... hot. The Canal was full of water sport activities and there were people everywhere. Fortunately I found a table inside. The food menu was limited, but they had IPAs, a stout and, of course, a saison, among lagers and pale ales. Brewing equipment was on premise. I felt at home.

Their beer reminded me of the States. In one way, that was nice for the familiarity. Howevee I wished for something special to the regiom. They'll probably say that it is, I have no idea what malts or hops they use. But either way, the beer was good and the food was good (they had a barbecue going outside).

The years did change things. They opened in 2015 with just the brewpub, but by this time they opened a new brewing space in Saint-Denis, and two new taprooms, one at Charles De Gaulle. They bottle now and also have some limited edition cans. When I went there in 2018 they had growlers, but couldn't, or wouldn't, sell them. I did manage to talk them out of one though.

White labs brew pub. The flight I had was Belgian strong and a doppelbock split batches made with different yeasts. It’s super clean, the staff was helpful and accommodating. Liquid yeast and there limited line of dry yeast is for sale in homebrew size.
The location was damaged by Milton, though they were able to get back to business fairly quickly and were a distribution hub for water and such for the community. The pizza was pretty good and the other food I saw going out looked appetizing.

Maybe it’s something else crumbling from the humidity. I’m not going to take the time now to research when the building was built, but it looked pretty new. Could be a new brick facade fooling me, and I’m no expert, but with recent problems I would think buildings adversely affected by the storm would have been inspected by the city and also the health department in this case before reopening.
 
Paul the Nurse Construction could fix that. What kind of iron forge they got?

I like those mugs!
Gotta get there early! Last two years I missed out. There was a wave of people at the opening but served quickly. Ended up chatting with a history professor from Cambridge for a good hour. By that time the crowd was big again. Disappointed as the pitch lined doppelbock keg was calling my name. Happy with the mug tho :)
 
Visited this new brewery in Gering, NE today. I met the owner/ head brewer at a homebrew club meeting I joined a couple months ago. I promised I would stop and sample some of his beers when I had the chance. Had a Pilsner, IPA, Altbier and Dunkel. They were all good and enjoyed the brewery.

My homebrew club made a day trip to the Potosi brewery and museum in (of course), Potosi, WI last weekend. This was a treat!
The old Potosi Brewery went out of business in 1972 and was rebuilt (a $7.5 million restoration) & reopened under new ownership (locals) in 2008.
This was a major "put it back together" effort.
If you are near there, beer is great, food is good, and the museum tour is amazing. Brewery tour on Saturdays.

That bar is weird but kinda cool.
 
Before I forget. Visited this small brewery in Exeter NH (on the way to Tributary Brewery Mott the Lessor Release). Exeter has a lot of academia around between priv and state school uni.

Went there for their meat pies. I'd say their beer and pies were good. However, there was a couple next to me from London that were raving how good the pies were with some honest critiques. One was the need for kidney pie. Another was a thicker ring crust. Bartender said they waited six months for a special English pie making press. So I'm out of my realm for critique :)

I went with the pub ale and steak. Next time I'm a big chic pot pie fan. It was Cinco de Mayo and they change menu every week.

All in all they're really into making it a unique experience. I'd highly recommend that area as a good beer trip loop. Nice New England college town area and restaurants. Add the Portsmouth and Kittery and you've got more than a days worth to do.

Punched the final ticket for Notch Brewery. I've visited Boston and Worcester locations. I recommend Notch as an alternative brewery to visit the hazy giants around here. Especially during special events.

Salem might take as my favorite. It's got a nice vibe. If you don't like driving/parking in Boston? The North Shore is 10x worse ;) Altho luckily they have a nice big parking lot. So head straight to the brewery if you want nice parking and is your destination. I went to a restaurant so circled thru one way crooked small alleys to get a spot.

It's on the coast and has the whole Salem history going on. Lots of history besides the witch trials. Tons of good restaurants close by too.

The were holding their XV anniversary. Usually during their events, like Octoberfest or DarkBier, they have many new unique beers on tap. Unfortunately, they only had an anniversary pitch lined Czech lager. Maybe it was me but I've had their pitch lined before and they were always phenomenal. This one was just ok. However, plenty of other good tasties on tap.

I would put Salem on top. Boston i also like the vibe. It's an interesting speedway garden setting. It may be me but getting Notch on draft is so much better than the can. I've never been disappointed at
an event in Boston. Crowded? Yes but fun. It's a little bit isolated but Trillium is just down the road. Worcester? It's a nice biergarten pop up.


Anyways, Salem is on the coast and there's always nice views of the ocean. I'd recommend it
