Marvin Gaye "Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)". I recall hearing this song when it was originally released in 1971. Today this song has a new meaning for me and it gives me inspiration. Marvin you are missed.
George Michael "Freedom 90" when he admits/comes out of the closet. This was when MTV actually played videos. Notice George isn't actually in the video. Great song no matter the context or George wanting to "getting me some happy".
The Box Tops "Sweet Cream Ladies". Of course the Box Tops are known as the most famous group to reach number 1 hit with a 1 minute 53 second song in "The Letter" from 1967.
How about "Lily Was Here" by Candy Dulfer and Dave Stewart (of the Eurythmics)? Listening to the song now. Writing about the Eurythmics geez... Annie Lenix has an incredible voice.
