Got this from the SoCo Homebrew dudes. There is a hint of souring but doesn't take away from the strong chocolate character and mouth feel. And whatever that thing was, didn't drink much.

Wife's brother/SiL (etc) moved to Michigan earlier this year, and we went out there last week to visit them for the first time. They're just outside of East Lansing, bought a cool old house, and are settling in. Nice, relaxing time...drank a lot of mead

Other sister-in-law brought brother-in-law a bottle back from Scotland. We had a few pulls from it over the course of the week.

We had the clover (not pictured) and the buckwheat. The clover was clearer and smoother - a clean mead, if you will. This was not.

We drank two of these

Mead goes with everything. We had Japanese on the last night.

Lots of mead drinking - blackberry honey mead

My suegra made some sopes - they're all disappointed in the lack of Mexican grocery stores (rather, the quality of ingredients from the existing stores). Tasted fine to me

Just wanted to say thanks for sharing your wonderful time. Family, alcohol and good food...nice blessing. Won't hold it against them with that East Lansing Spartan thing.... Always loved your unique posts.

If my memory is correct @camonick shared this from @ThirstyPawsHB and I used it as a template to make it myself. It was a hit with a lot of friends on a camping trip. The friends at HB club said it was far better than a Mikes Hard Lemonade. So I would say it’s a win & a solid recipe.

Have you used buckwheat before? I absolutely enjoy the funk it gives. Almost like a funky Brett beer without the bugs.

Between the need to kill off my Panther Piss Super Dry keg, the sexy new IPA, and the opening salvo in my war to reclaim my historically UK-focused brewery from the ignominy of my fizzy yellow swill project, this poor beer has been ignored.

Belgian Dubbel HB at 5 weeks. Tasting really good now. Worth the wait. Used a little El Dorado to dry hop.
They say they’re the same, but I think Wyeast 3522 is a little better than Imperial Gnome. Both are better at generation 2 than fresh IMHO.

First full pint of the beer I made with locally sourced new crop barley I home malted and fresh cone cascade hops from the vine at my mom’s house. I used the recipe for SNPA off their website… it’s not even close. My FG came in much higher than predicted and the hops are very underwhelming. Definitely not a pale ale. Tastes and smells more like an amber. Really not very good. I’m not sure I’ll be able to drink all 5 gallons. It was an interesting project for sure. Tastes kinda like carbonated iced tea.

First acceptable pull from my very first kegged beer. A Hazy Grapefruit IPA, and it is looking great! Trying to finish a s***ton of home projects, but at 7.5%, this may not be the 'session brew' for today. Slow and steady wins the race, lol.

So much to do and so little fishing left...with bluebird skies for the whole long weekend, (CAN) maybe tomorrow. Cheers!

HB Festbier and college football Saturday. Life is good!

Ground will be broken soon on a brewery a half mile away from my house (Gem State Brewing). The owners live close by and brought a couple of beers by for me to enjoy and review. I normally despise pumpkin beers, however, their Pumpkin Spice Coffee Stout is well balanced, not too sweet, and just really good. The other beer is a Blueberry Vanilla Cream Ale. Not a kind of beer I’d usually go for, but wow! This one surprised me as well. I can’t wait for them to open!
