You've already ordered the ECY that's available now, right?!

There's a reason that it sounds like "Ecky" when you say it out loud.

I do have a nice pellicle going in an old carboy though... unfortunately it has a ton of headspace, so I'm sure it's riddled with acetic acid.

So, there goes my attempt at making gross beer.

I was listening on my way home from work. They did t mention it! ****.

Really? It was an entire show of Bob's classic bits.

Actually, you're right though, they didn't really mention it until the end... but he announced it at the beginning of November.

Coffee. Gotta head south 2 hours on crappy roads to get my wife and kids.

Mhurst lets hope I don't pass any FedEx trucks blown off the road!

I'm confused as all hell on this one. I dropped my box off in Denver an hour after you dropped off in Casper. Your's will be on my porch tonight. Mine hasn't left Denver yet?!?!?

coffee in the office.

That happened to me too. According to fedex it was still in LA, until it showed up on my porch a day early. I think the extra traffic prevents proper package scanning sometimes.

Yeah I just saw that. Took them a whole day to get it from one side of Denver to the other. No worries. Gives me something to look forward to after work tomorrow :mug:

I thought I was pretty nice. TLDR, I was still pissed and emailed them. Lied about buying it just so it didn't seem like I came out of left field with this. Actually, I'm still pissed from the "tasting" back in early November.

I'm curious why you let your "double" IPA age for 12 weeks? At 6.4% (mid-range ABV for an English or American IPA), there should be no reason to let it "age" that long.

I also think it's a bit dubious to call it a Double IPA when it's not even close to being in the style range. A full 1+% short of the minimum ABV, and the 88 IBU is slighted by letting all that precious hop flavor and aroma fade away for 3 months before going on the shelf for god knows how long.

Sorry to sound so negative, but would just like to know the reasoning behind it. Hopefully what I experienced is just a side-effect of the contract brewing, but I was not impressed with what I purchased, which was partially on me... since I had read that it was "aged" 12 weeks and 6.4%, but had to give it a shot anyway, because you guys are local.

Also, is it seriously close to 19 plato? What is that beer ending at? ~1.027? Crazy. It's so out of style, what yeast are you using that craps out so high in an IPA?

Maybe you're going for an English IPA and pretending that it goes on the boat for 12 weeks over to India? I might buy that explanation. Personally, I would just destroy it with Chinook for whirlpool or late additions and dry hop, then get it to the shelf immediately. But I like a lot of hop flavor and aroma in my DIPAs (expect it, actually… again, due to the style guidelines). So many red flags with this beer and just brings into question the soundness of your process and recipe formulation.

Anyway, best of luck, thanks for hearing me out. Hope the kinks get worked out, would love to have another brewery in Sioux Falls put out some decent beers, so far Gandy Dancer is the only one doing it right.

sounds like you made some vinegar!

While it does sound pretty whiny (lets be honest, are we surprised considering the author? :)), I would want to hear things like this if I were in their shoes. Being a professional business whose only success will come by the quality of their product, or understanding of what product they are actually putting out is, feedback will certainly help. I think you did the right thing by bringing this information to their attention. Hopefully they already knew it wasnt really a DIPA and now they also understand their customers arent idiots. Either way, I think it will benefit them in the long run.

Funk. You.

I was hoping it came across more like, 'do you guys think we're stupid?'

Whiny, really? I don't see it. I hate you.

Still being whiny I see. ;)

No, I didnt think it was whiny. I seriously thought it was perfect for the point you were trying to prove to them. I'm glad you wrote them as some breweries like that may never be told they arent doing things well enough to survive. Hopefully they take it positively and try to build off of that.

Yep you did. You sent too much. Still working on the goodies you sent. Need to finalize my X-mas beer list for santa's drunkin' elves.

Good. I won't call it an epic beer, but it is one to look forward too. They used to sit around and old ones were damned fine porters.... But they are better fresh. It's an FFF beer... Hops play a role!

Ha. It really killed me when I went to their tasting a month or so ago. I tried to discuss it with them and they just shrugged me off and sent me away when I asked for more samples (in addition to the whopping 3 I had), I was done with them right there... But if they survive making this ****, I'll be even more pissed.

Uh, OT: water.

That's how he critiques all the beer I send him. The next day I come here and find an essay in my inbox asking me wtf I thought I was trying to make. It's pretty much the reason I don't make beer any more. Just completely crushed any aspirations I had at making something decent.

I wouldnt be surprised to see the brewery close its doors after such a whiny email like that. what a bully.
