I was hauling wood inside from my back yard and two, huge German Shepards ran up on me (20 feet away). They had collars and tags but wanted to kill me. I didn't shoot them since I was about 5 feet from my door. Now they're on my closest neighbors' property and animal control is on its way.

And I'm having my ESB on nitro to celebrate not killing dogs.

Drew a sample of my bourbon oaked Belgian breakfast stout. I'm glad I went against my initial instinct and instead left this on the oak spiral for the time suggested by the manufacturer. They suggested six weeks and it'll be six weeks this Saturday. At 1 1/2 weeks, the oak seemed like it would be overpowering, but now it seems to have blended well instead of tasting layered. If that makes sense.
Need to bottle soon.

Tl;dr

It makes sense if I stick my pinky out while I drink my protein shake.

More for the bottle than anything.

Ive been meaning to try it, but Ive heard mixed reviews. What were your thoughts on it?

Well to be honest it I'm not a fan of BeerCamp the hoppy lager tasted too much like cat piss and to be honest I remember HopHunter being even worse, just a very bright almost watery IPA I mean I wouldn't buy a six pack but if you see it in a craft 6 mixpack choose 5 others that actually have flavor.

Edit: I want to say this is by far the least analytical amateur thing I may say all day

Closest I've ever come to intentionally harming a dog was under similar circumstances. I was out in the middle of a field, working as a field hand on a tree farm. There was no place to seek shelter for nearly a mile (I had been dropped there by another employee and did not even have a vehicle). As I was busting my ass working, I heard some barking coming from somewhere behind me. When I figured out where it was coming from, I saw two German Shepherds in the distance that were approaching very quickly and sounding really pissed off. I stood there for a while thinking "these damn things better not be coming here".

When they were about 100 yards off, I could see very clear bad intent in their eyes, despite them both having tags and collars...and, boy, were they coming fast. I took a quick look at the tools I was left with and decided the hoe was the best way to strike with the most distance between me and the death hounds. I just prayed I could pull the hoe out of the first dog's skull in time to fight off the second. When they got about 15 feet away, they must have sensed what the hoe was about to be used for, because they came to a screeching halt and just paced back and forth, staring at me. It was like the end scene of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Finally these damn animals got bored, or something, and trotted off into the distance.

I was scared out of my mind for a while there, thinking they would finally figure out they could flank me if they really wanted to. Not to mention, I really didn't want to have to kill a dog.

The two I saw today both had collars and tags on. Not sure who owns them as I don't really have neighbors or live in a neighborhood. I just looked out back and see footprints in the snow from the woods leading to near my deck, close to where I was when I heard the dogs. I was actually under my deck near the walk-out basement door hauling wood inside. I didn't draw my gun but felt like I should have since they were less than 10 yards away. I would hate to have to kill a dog or two. I'm glad I didn't. But what if those ****ers come back when I'm outside with my kids or family? I have no idea where the **** they live. I will shoot each one in the head without thinking twice if I see them on my property when my kids are outside.

It is.

Not exactly to the contrary, but what I pointed out would be the way I would go. A diacetyl rest is to allow the yeast a little temperature boost to clean up the diacetyl that is produced during fermentation. If it's already clean, doing a rest won't hurt anything, but isn't necessary. I just mentioned Ringwood because it's notorious for it. I don't typically run Chico that low, so no base of reference.

When I said "...to the contrary...", I was really asking if I was risking any off flavors from high temp fermentation now that it has already been sitting on the yeast for a week and a half. I suspect that it is not at such a risk, so why not warm it up a bit?

Ah, yeah, exactly. At this point, as long as you don't take it up to 80 or 90, it should be fine. Diacetyl rest is typically 68-70 for 2 or 3 days.

I hope you would think twice about pulling out your gun with your kids around, esp if you've been drinking, dogs or no dogs.

I really, really hope you don't think I'm that stupid. If my kids were outside and dogs were near us, the weapon is coming out and if there is a clear line-of-sight to any of the dogs, it's over for them. My kids know to run inside of the garage even if hawks are flying above, which they do quite frequently. We've also seen bobcats. So, I'd hope they follow the protocol if we saw dogs, wild or domestic, on our property.

Water for now and filling three growlers of home brew to take with me to Storrs for tonight's UConn game.

Water, there seems to be a pattern.

Some of you may know that I started hitting the gym pretty heavy this year, and joined a MASS class geared around building muscle. I just watched a video of a guy setting the dead lift record, why would you want to pick up over 1k lbs? He is just asking for a colon blow out, which I have seen pictures of- google it.

After careful consideration, I have decided to decline this invitation. :D

Let me know. I'm thinking, or hoping, if I give you 3 gallon keg that was pressurized, then you can fill it and I can run it back to my house and top it off with CO2. It shouldn't oxidize that quickly, should it?

I wouldn't think so, but since I know absolutely nothing about kegging, I'll differ to you and anyone else that wants to chime in! So...silly question: how do you add beer to a keg that is already pressurized?

Groceries away, dinner started, kombucha check...one started on the 9th and one on the 12th and I'm out of drinking supply, except for a couple bottles that need a lot longer to carb, from what I have read recently...if they ever carb. Just finished a Coke Zero...may have to pop open an hb rootbeer.

My 60/-. On the plus side, moved up the ranks with website update getting points in the system, officially BJCP Certified. On the other side f*** every other thing about the world...

My family eats a lot of buffalo... makes great burgers.

Elk is much better, however. And Elk loin steaks are some of the best cuts of meat I've ever had.

Alligator tastes like chicken with hints of fish and a little more rubbery.

Squirrel tastes like fat little chunks of bacon.

Drinking full throttle.

Danm, now I want to shoot some squirrels!:D

Hb stout.
