Thinking about trying a turbid mash tomorrow on a lambic. Will the mash have the same affect on the finished product if Im using malted wheat?

Good question. I'm not sure. I was wondering the same thing. I don't know how much starch is converted to sugar when wheat is malted. I already had a bag of wheat malt and this was sort of last minute so I was thinking about using it. I ended up buying a bag of raw spelt thinking I'd save my 'expensive' wheat malt, but the damn spelt was just as much and it's not even organic.

Hmm, I also have unmalted wheat but had planned to use that in something else. Should I use the unmalted wheat instead of malted wheat if I want to do a turbid mash then? Or is malted wheat with a single infusion mash good enough of a procedure to skip the turbid mash? Finally have a chance to justify trying a turbid mash, but dont want to go through it with malted wheat if it may not be necessary.

I think the turbid mash is worth the effort, but YMMV. I would use the raw wheat if you're going to go through all the trouble. I figured out a little trick today. Add the water for the next step before pulling the wort for the turbid. It doesn't change temps and it's about 1000000x easier. :D

Haha thanks! Im typing up a step by step process for the mash so I can print out and have in front of me tomorrow. Want it to go as smoothly as possible. Will certainly use the unmalted wheat and just buy more for the wit later. Cheers Gabe! :mug:

Family vacation. Disney/ Universal.

BeerMeDuffMan is around here somewhere too.

I'm assuming you are staying in the Disney area (Kissimmee), there is a great bottle shop 10-15 minutes from Disney proper, Knightly Spirits. CCB makes some BA beers just for them.
If you make it into Orlando, Frank & Steins has an extensive bottle list and 30 or so taps. Plus they have video games, ski ball, and other games to keep the kids busy.
If you are so inclined, you are allowed to bring kids to breweries. Or you and Duffman can ditch the families for a day and head to Tampa.

If you make it to Tampa, Cigar City is great, but when I was there in December, I had a Nightswim Porter by Coppertail Brewing Co. that was, IMHO, outstanding. Next time I go back, I'm going to THAT brewery! Have fun!

Edit: Oh yeah...found Knightly Spirits...kind of sketchy shopping center, but the guys there were nice and had a decent selection. They said the special Cigar City bottles draw a line like a special release at a popular brewery and sell out immediately, so don't get your hopes up. But they did have a couple of bottles of the Winter Warmer behind the counter, so it doesn't hurt to ask if they have anything special. There was not any Winter Warmer available at the brewery.

Coffee...slept late. Awesome.

Awesome! Thanks. Was just coming on here to ask for bottle shop recommendations to stock the mini fridge.

Quick google search shows abc Liquors and empire Liquors as the closest.

Would love to drive to Tampa for a day but that might cost me dearly w the wife.

If you jump on the 417 (toll road) at SR 535, it will drop you off right in front of the Knighly Spirits on SR 441. It's about 10-15 minute drive, depending on your hotel location, and will cost you $2-3 in tolls. ABC's down here can be hit or miss, probably worth a look. I've never heard of Empire.
I haven't been to Disney in over 20 years, I'm sure I will have to go back when my son gets a little older. The last park I went to was Epcot a few years ago, we got hammered drinking around the world.
Drinking water, watching Thomas and Friends.
