Naked Elf. So good

We were tenters until my wife was pregnant with #3. I now say we don't camp, we RV. It's not camping if there is a microwave, refrigerator and multiple TV's.

That thing is still camping but you don't wake up with a soggy ass like in a tent.

Haha yeah very true. We have a one year old so it will be perfect for a few years. We still get the camping experience with a little more comfort.

From the eMAW zeptrey sent me. I've been waiting so long to try this and I am not disappointed. So glad to be able to try this beer. Really wish this was available around here.

That's the food cooler. The beer cooler goes in the truck!

Heading to Boysen reservoir. Actually camping in the state park below the dam. Good fishing on the wind river. View attachment 206687
Older photo, but that can be an average fish up there depending on the bite.

Santa feels Saison 88 outta Santa can!!.. I'm back hbt! !! Have not had my phone all week cuz I raged and broke it over my knee trying to make a point.. I use this app more than anything :) cheers !!

Coffee.

I had a pretty good krausen in my starter this morning. Is that normal (I am usually a dry yeast guy)?

Also, for a relatively big stout, would you bother decanting or just toss the whole thing in there?

I'd think it wasn't normal if I didn't have one haha. Just about all of mine do. Mine ferment at about 70 ambient.

Drinking a protein shake.

You can add it all but I decant because I don't temp control my starters and I don't want to risk off flavors from the liquid.

Thanks. This is my first starter. I thought maybe there would be no krausen because of the low OG of the starter. I have built this yeast up from dregs and I never had krausen with the 100ML - 200ML "starters" I used to build it up to the point where I felt comfortable making a real starter. Last night, I put 2L of wort on the stir plate and today I've got krausen. Also, my beaker markings are WAY off. I measured out 2L of water to boil, using a measuring cup, and I only ended up with wort to about the 1.6L mark on my beaker.

That was my thinking. This thing was sitting out in ambient temp on a stir plate. 2L of oxidized, warm fermented beer would certainly impact a smaller, lighter beer...not sure about in this imperial stout. I will probably decant. I am pretty geeked about this particular beer but doing so many new things here, I am a little nervous that when I crack a tester around Thanksgiving I'm going to be a bit disappointed. My 2013 Christmas beer was my best brew to date. The people I gave it to as Christmas presents are already asking about if I'm making a 2014 Christmas beer.

If you wouldn't do it in a light beer, don't do it in a dark beer :fro:

Not going to comment on the camper/tent convo...
We have three kids and tent camp. Ok, I did comment.

Drinking coffee. Horrible night's sleep.

I have never decanted a started, never temperature control my starters, and have never had any issues. I always use liquid yeast too. I wouldnt decant but that is just my personal preference.

My god am i hungover. We went to the bars last night because a buddy is moving today. I had way too many shots. Chugging water like its my job.
