Got some crowlers from Pinthouse yesterday. Unfortunately, they ended up have leaks at the lid...🫤

Physical therapy was today. Learned a lot and could actually walk much better with just minimum pain after. I guess that's the bad news as that ends my time off. 😂

Glad you're on the mend, but back to the salt mines for you! ;)

When we’re talking West Coast IPA’s one of the defining characteristics is clarity. Take a peek at Societe Brewing Company’s “The Pupil” 7.5% ABV India Pale Ale…. Looking at this IPA, they are definitely the Professors, and we are humble Freshmen! Fantastic clarity!

Based out of San Diego, Society Brewing Company has been producing choice beers like this since their inception in 2012.

Other than the lovely presentation in the beer glass, we have a great and predictable West Coast IPA flavor profile – one with guava and mango notes as listed on the 19.2 ounce can. I’m finding a lot of San Diego West Coast IPA’s are centered around a similar flavor profile, it seems to be cropping up over and again from other local brewers, the definitive San Diego IPA profile. I’d say this mostly goes back to Escondido’s Stone Brewing and their classic IPA – and even back to Vinnie Cilurzo’s former Blind Pig Brewery in Temecula. The IPA business has grown up and expanded a lot since then. Those skills and talents get carried back and forth to other local brewers, making similar brews.

Did I say nice head and terrific lacing? Nice head and terrific lacing…. Enjoy!

One of the more famous San Diego IPAs has to be Ballast Point’s Sculpin. Ballast Point Brewing has been a San Diego beer icon since 1996. As one of the OG’s of the San Diego brew scene, Ballast Point has pumped out a continuous supply of mostly IPA’s, lighter and medium Ales and Lagers. Yes I know they’ve done a few darks, but by far the lion’s share have been IPA’s. I can remember buying their IPA combo pack a couple years ago, it was fantastic!

Sculpin is another one of those “to be drank fresh” beers that define the San Diego IPA scene. A very traditional IPA, nothing hanging out in the weeds here. Also – This is a Westie – check out the clarity! Sculpin is a bit more amber in hue than most IPA’s you’ll encounter in these parts – and the flavor is terrific!

7% ABV, medium head and lacing, Sculpin is one of the IPA’s you need to experience - a part of your beer repertoire!
