Earlier, one final taste and carb check of my HB coconut flavored milk stout I'll be pouring this weekend. Our HB Club will be serving our beers on Saturday at a beerfest alongside Firestone Walker, Sierra Nevada, Ballast Point, Green Cheek, and a few dozen other California breweries.

Now that amateur night has come and gone (that's what my drummer used to call it) I can get back in the game.

Speaking of amateurs, I forgot to take a pretty picture of this. It's my Vienna that I brewed in September. Sadly, the floater is starting to suck yeast. I'll miss this one. Thanks again to the folks that inspired me to dust off this recipe last Fall.

On the road today in Sacramento, testing the limits of my Pilsner search. Obviously we are paying these fat government bureaucrats too much. There’s like 200 to 300 restaurants and eateries for every supermarket! Now I get it!

Sudwerk Brewing is a local favorite. Boldly stated on the can - “Brewery of the Year” at the GABF. Now that’s saying something!

The People’s Pilsner is a 5.3% ABV Bohemian style Pilsner with a whopping 35 IBU. I have to say when I was drinking Czech Pilsners, there wasn’t anything in that range, in fact most were a bit mellow, maybe 20-25 IBU. Still a good beer, the hopping is a bit assertive. Maybe that’s what makes it the People’s Pils- those folks have tastebuds tempered by all those hoppy IPAs out there!

Back to back! Sudwerk Pils up against the original Bohemian Pilsner!

Pilsner Urquell is definitely more smooth and mellow. I think I need to stack these up and drink them in ascending order - hoppier and hoppier and hoppier!

The Sudwerk was voted Gold at GABF for Bohemian Pilsners. I think this has to do with a drift in human preferences toward slightly hoppier domestic Pilsners. The Pilsner Urquell is the benchmark, yet the Sudwerk seems a bit more lively and bright. Both are great beers, Enjoy!

@Rish I've seen some hm ginger beer recipes here and I've done a few, they turned out ok but missing something... do you back sweeten at all? Seems if I add a touch of simple syrup it tastes closer to what I expect.. but maybe the yeast I used dried it out to much.. last one I grated ginger fresh and steeped and strained it, boiled some dextrose and added a touch of dme hoping for more body.. don't recall the yeast I used though.

OT.. same beer as posted above.. carry on.
 
Raging Red Irish Red, a recipe from member Mystic Meads..
6 days in the bottle, but still tasty. I use corn sugar for carbonation.
A little malty on the nose, with just a hint of the wild flower honey I used on the finish, cant wait for it to age! ( that's why I'm having one tonight- pun intended)

Poured the last bottle of Golden Monkey. Really enjoying this beer, need to get some more. And Duvel, been a while.

I keep wanting to call it brass monkey, though it's not that cold out. 😁

I love the victory monkey beers!! I just finished off the witty monkey. The sour monkey is ok and I never had the berry one yet.

HB kveik IPA. Did this one no chill and it's super hazy. Don't care, made beer. First homebrew in almost 2 years!!

I didn't backsweeten this one but have used monk fruit in the past that I liked and will do again. I'm thinking I'll use some wheat dme in the next batch.
 
Still in Sacramento hitting the local Pilsner brews, and I get this one shooting out everywhere, replete with chunks of yeast throughout and in the head. Totally cloudy. Not my idea of a funster.

See folks, Pilsner is a premium thing. It needs to be brewed and packaged with precision. On the commercial side, if the thing needs filtering, then filter it already.

This is the great thing about the German brews. Perfection. This one not so much. Dzüngle Premium Pilsner is brewed at a finishing ABV of 4.4%, definitely putting it in that session beer category, that is if you actually decide to go through the shooting can and messy cleanup again.

King Cong Brewing Co., Sacramento. Flavor is fine. Presentation is really lacking. Work on it fellas !

Turlock is mid-state California, known more for almonds and poultry, less for beers. Close enough to Sacramento for their beers to show up here, Dust Bowl Pils by Dust Bowl Brewing is a fine entry into this market.

5.1% ABV, this stovepipe is advertised as “Crisp Pilsner”. That “crisp” word is drifting into the brewing vernacular BTW!

I guess crisp is subjective. This is a nice brew, a little fruity and estery for the Beermeister32 taste buds. Fruity and estery is sort of the diametric opposite of crisp in my book! Otherwise a fine beer, a bit more like a Golden Ale or Kolsch to me. Enjoy!
