Tried the first bottle of my HB Skibsol (Danish "ship beer"). Not bad, could use another week of conditioning. 4.6% ABV. The smoke seems a bit muted, but definitely there. The Munich I gives it a little more malty goodness and the rye provides a little edge.

I thought this would be a lot like Grodziskie, but it is quite different. If you want to brew a low-ABV smoke beer, this is one to consider.

My thirst for Pilsner knows no boundaries! Today we head out to the Left Coast and slug down a California-size can of Scrimshaw “Pilsner-Style Beer,” 19.2 ounces!

Scrimshaw is a product of North Coast Brewing, heck it’s even an “®” registered trademark! Now that’s having faith in being around a while, anyone familiar with that process knows it can be a wait, sometimes years. A lot of brewers are out of business by the time the trademark comes through! Not North Coast though, they have been a foundational Northern California brewer for quite some time and have a slate of very well known beers, Old Rasputin and Apex notably.

Any time I see the word “-style” in combination with a name my antennas go up, not knowing what I’m heading into. Nothing to fear, this is a terrific Pilsner Lager. Nice head, great lacing - ABV nowhere to be seen on the can, but I see one thing of real interest – “Water, Malted Barley, Hops, Yeast and That’s All”. Well, assuming “That’s All” means “nothing else” and not some trademark for Rice solids or something, I think we quite possibly might have a genuine Reinheitsgebot Pilsner! Brewed in San Jose!

Grab one of these Tall-Boys the next time you are in a “Pilsner-Style” mood, you’ll like it!

@Hoppy2bmerry if you make it to Asheville again maybe try my work buddy's brewery (who retired obviously), Sideways, in Ethowa. Chatting with his brother today, another work buddy, and mentioned the Tripel was darn good.

Water (otherwise known as HB Helles) while wort cooling...

The first beer poured out of the newly rebuilt kegerator. My imperial stout I made at the end of 2022, so it’s just over two years old. It’s a little flat but still good. A couple days on the system and it will be fully carbed. The thread with the recipe is here.

OK, I admit it. Here we are St. Patrick’s day and I should be drinking something Irish, right? Well, there’s not a drop of Irish in old Beermeister32 – Except for some of those Sullivan’s I pounded down last month! Speaking of which, I have a few of them packed away for my Corned Beef dinner later tonight!

In the meantime, I found the “Greenest” can of beer I could find that still fits my Pilsner search. Yes, a green can! Makes sense, with a name like Wernesgrüner, means Wernes Green or something like that. German majors help me out here! Anyway, it has a green theme, and that’s as close as I can get today!

Wernesgrüner was established in 1436, and had the unfortunate location to put it smack inside the old Commie DDR. Funny how wars affect our bier trinken, huh? Recently a part of Bitburger and now Carlsberg, this is a fantastic Pilsner, nice head and some of the most impressive lacing I’ve seen in a while! Enjoy!
