Tequila and pineapple juice.
I can't wait to get my HB pipe line going again.

For grins I'm doing a side by side pour of my nut brown ale and a well known commercial nut brown. I'd say color and clarity are pretty damned close. But that's where the similarity ends. Samuel Smith NB is so freaking good. I enjoyed mine quite a bit until I tasted them together. :)

To be fair I wasn't trying to clone SS, I just found a generic recipe for a nut brown online and decided to brew it. I saw this bottle of SS NB at a beer shop a while back and thought it would be interesting to compare.

I still have a thirst for Pilsners that is far from being satisfied. Today I’m having another of my favorites, Einbecker Brauherren Pils.

Located in the town of Einbeck, an area more notably famous for Bock beers than Pilsners, you nevertheless have a great beer heritage wrapped up in this 16-ounce, yes 16 not 16.9 / 500 ml aluminum can.

Einbecker Pils is produced using Herkules and Magnum Noble hops and is a golden color, a touch darker than many Pilsners out there. It is advertised as having an abundant white head, but I’m not seeing it on this one. It does have fantastic Pils flavor, slightly hop forward and totally refreshing. This is as a thirst-quenching and drinkable Pilsner as you are going to find!

Since 1378 Einbecker Brauhaus has been making beers like this. At 4.9% ABV, you’re going to be wanting 3 of these, maybe 4. A great beer for washing down a few brats and pretzels, Prost!

A year ago today my best friend had suddenly passed away. Thankfully this picture of us together was taken the month before. We finally got together for beer and wings which was long overdue. It wasn’t the last time I spoke with him as we were always calling or texting each other regularly but it was the last time we got together in person.
Mike was enjoying the Scotch Ale which I included a can in a beer trade with @TheDudeLebowski (which I forgot about) and I had the Fiddlehead that night. I now always keep Fiddlehead in my fridge and tonight I needed to have one in his memory. I figured it was only appropriate to enjoy their imperial version tonight too for the first time.
Tonight I enjoy a few thinking of good friends and memories. Thinking of friendships I’ve gotten to know here on HBT and some (again @TheDudeLebowski ) and others who I’ve been able to enjoy a beer and conversation in person (like @MaxStout & @RevKev) and others over text, email and beer exchanges. Cheers everyone! 🍻

I've been taking the positive of returning to the office as there's plenty of good breweries close by now. I'm no longer overflowing my fridge with cans. Most places only sell 4pks so I just visit and do drafts. If there's something amazing? Maybe I'll buy. Plus many packies are selling the famous breweries. 1st world problems but I do notice a difference between cans and draft

It's been so bad I can't remember the last time I visited Vitamin Sea or Trillium. That happens during golf season :)

homebrewed coconut stout... I added too much coconut extract to this batch and over-carbonated at bottling... it's not bad, but it's not good either. :(
Bummer. A few weeks ago I brewed a coconut flavored milk stout for the third time, (or is it the forth?), and I think I finally have it exactly where I want it. Each time I've backed off on the Apex toasted coconut as it can quickly get out of hand. I'll be serving it at a beer festival in a couple weeks, so unfortunately I won't get a chance to drink much of it.

Wow! I didn't know that. I went once many years ago. If anyone plans to go, here is your 2025 beer tent lineup.

PS....Stuttgart is 100% better

Stuttgart is an awesome town, agree.

Also, don't overlook some of the smaller towns in Germany. They pull off a good O-fest celebration. I have friends in Heubach, about an hour east of Stuttgart. Had some fun times and great beer at their tents years ago.

I'm sure we've all over-carbed a few beers, I know I sure have. In fact, I'm on a bit of losing streak, having recently over-carbed an American stout and a Vienna lager due to my bizarre dispensing method.

On the plus side, if you burp the keg a few times over the course of a week you might be very pleasantly surprised with the results. Over-carbing sure sucks, but at least it's fixable.

You got this!

Still trying to slake my thirst with Pilsner. Bitburger is one of the better-known and available German Pilsners available just about everywhere in the US. Bitburger is brewed in Bitburg, Germany since 1817!

Funny, looking at the logo, here is another brewery that uses the Student Prince themed artwork. If you want a domestic version of this advertising, look no further than the old Columbia Brewing/Heidelberg company formerly out of Tacoma, Washington. They had some similar advertising labeling and artwork – plus roadside advertising that nearly leapt off the billboard at you!

Delicious! Prost!

Another from deep in the cellar

Stone 2011 Old Guardian Belgo Barleywine

A part of their “Odd Beers in Odd Years” series where they did a few twists on their seasonal releases.

This one is poured in my official Double Bastard glass.

Only a small release of pressure when opening the bottle. Pours honey amber with a small and quickly dissipating tan head. Nose is rum raisin and cherries, fruitcake.

Flavors are fruitcake, stone fruit, caramels malt and some baking spices. The Belgian character is actually less than I anticipated, which I think is a good thing. The yeast plays fairly nicely with malty richness of this beer. No noticeable hops, and probably a good thing.

While I’d still take a regular barleywine over this, it’s not a bad take on the old classic. It’s lacking carbonation and probably ten years past when it should have been drank, but I’ll finish it.
