Cancer won today so **** cancer - Dad kicked the bucket early this a.m. after fighting stomach cancer for a couple of years!

We hadn't talked in a long time, but he did contribute DNA so I'll have a beer in his behalf.

Cheers!!

Had to check FG on the Black Pearl's Revenge in the fermenter today, so I opened a Piraat ale to compare flavor profiles. Close!

Unfortunately, in catching up on this thread, I drank the remaining Piraat ale and there's naught left in the glass to photograph.

Not that I really care all that much at this point, anyway. I'll likely be napping a bit before dinner.

That sucks dude...I'm sorry for your loss. And, I wholeheartedly agree, F* Cancer. I've lost a couple of friends and family to it as well.

Sullivan’s is no stranger to the Beermeister32 bierhoard, I’ve had a few of these tucked away for some time. What a great opportunity to crack one open for my British/Scottish/Irish beer drinking project! I drank one of these about a month or two ago and it was AAA+++ fantastic, and that’s no taradiddle!

Of all the Irish Reds I’ve had, I think this is my favorite, nice amount of head, great lacing, fantastic flavor, clean - and not at all cloying, unlike some of the domestic clones. This is a terrific drinking Irish Red, and I think all of you will love this.

Nice reddish color, 5% ABV, advertised as having some fruitiness that I’m not really picking up, just a great malt presentation and restrained hopping, Sullivan’s has been brewing great beers like this in Kilkenney, Ireland since 1702. Now I get the 14.9 oz size – fits my glass perfectly, and we know how the Irish feel about short pours… Fisticuffs! So good, I’ve already finished it GONE and I’ve only been writing a few minutes! Sláinte !!!

I'm going to seek this out based on your writeup!

I'm still on my journey to determine why...I don't like Pilsners. Originally, I thought this was just a Miller Lite thing, but then I tried a bunch of "authentic" Pilsners, including Pilsner Urquell which proclaims to brew the original recipe. I also purchased a slew of macro Lagers & Pilsners (and then donated to a number of my less beer snobby friends what was left over) to try and figure out where my bias lie. It always ended up with not liking the drying spicy finish that based on my reading are from Noble hops.

Enter the New Zealand Pilsner, which isn't a style that I've attempted to brew yet but I also feel like I've been dipping my toes into leaning this way with my whole 2 kegs produced of DDH Japanese lagers using what are traditionally considered IPA hops.

This...is outstanding. Monkish, "Brain Boxes" WC Pilsner (Citra & Mosaic)

So sorry for your loss TG. Hope for speed healing for you and your family. 🍻

Continuing onward - English/Scottish/Irish beers, mostly ales! You know if you drink enough of these in a row, you kinda get the drift where these brewers are coming from. They certainly paint a representative “lay of the land” when it comes to British Isles brewing, many similarities between multiple brewers.

Smithwicks is right there too with their tasty Red Ale. Smithwicks is brewed by Guinness in Ireland, and has an over 300 year history there. A 4.5% Irish Red Ale, I guess the logical question would be how does this compare to the Sullivans I had a few brews back.

Well, tastes being a subjective thing, I think I’d prefer the Sullivans. Not to disparage this nifty Ale one bit, I just thought the Sullivans was best in class and still do. Smithwicks is no sloucher though, great flavor, restrained hopping, nice head, great lacing, this is a great Irish Red, and check out the clarity!

Sorry for your loss. I lost my first wife to cancer in 2013.

Photographing these beers can be a challenge unto itself – I swear, I poured this beer as hard as I could to raise some kind of a head for the camera – and darned near nothing! Drinking this, carbonation level is fine. It just won’t raise much of a head, that wort must undergo must be one heck of a protein rest, huh? Sorry folks!

Fuller’s London Pride is an old-school favorite with a few surprising side notes - Looks like Fuller’s is now a product of Asahi UK and is brewed by Griffin Brewery located in Chiswick, London, England. Nothing stays the same does it? Asahi? And imported into the US by Paulaner USA. Wow.

Fuller’s London Pride is a tasty amber ale brewed at 4.7% ABV. Not watery, but this beer seems to lack the body of some of the other English and Irish brews I’m comparing them to, and of course the lack of head and zero lacing. All things that I love, but are a bit minimized here. Clarity would look great in a big 1L paneled stein! Cheers!

Fuller’s also changed all their bottles. They used to have nice fancy bottles. I have about 3 cases of their old fancy bottles. I use them mainly for bottlng barelywine.
