Today we meet Old Prague Premium Lager Beer by Old Prague Distribution, Kováň, Středočeský, Czech Republic. This is a delicious 5.2% ABV slightly hoppy lager. A lot of these Czech lagers predominantly use Saaz hops. The spiciness of what I believe I’m tasting is Saaz and really is a standout here.
The Old Prague label has 4 Gold Medals and a big number “12” at the bottom. Most of these Czech beers go by Degrees Plato, so I’m assuming that is what we are looking at, maybe not 12 medals. 12 Degrees Plato is roughly equivalent to a finished ABV of +/- 5% assuming all goes right with fermentation. Crafty fellas, them Czechs!
I’m seeing some internet traffic calling this a Pilsner – OK, I’m game. A Pilsner it is! Again, not quite as hoppy as some of the Bavarian Pilsners I’m usually marinating in, and the hop flavor is a bit different, but otherwise IBU’s on the low Pilsner scale, small amount of head, good carbonation, disappearing lacing.
Give this beer a try, I think you will like!
