Fox Farm Meadow Witch 16.1%abv

Witch Meadow 2023 was aged in a combination of bourbon barrels from three storied producers - Buffalo Trace (Mash #1), Willet and Knob Creek, the latter being used to produce their limited 18-year old bourbon (twice the age of their flagship). Witch Meadow is blended for complexity from some slightly varied base beers, all double-mashed in the morning and boiled long into the night - and similar to last year, barrel residency time ranged from 33-12 months for a blended average of 20-months. Layered, rich and complex, it’s another meaningful step forward for our small high-gravity stout program.

It is too cold to drink in the beer garden, only 76 °F
Bottling leftover from mead started 10/02/2020 and bulk aged since. Pretty tasty. 13.8%

A few years ago I was involved in a three-year mead project. One of our local homebrewers made the mead and asked me to turn it into something special. First, I barrel-aged the mead in my Doppelbock/Scotch barrel. I do a lot of ice beers and decided it would turn the barrel-aged mead into something special, which it did.

Spending a chilly afternoon indoors. Back to winter, in just the last couple hours. This morning we washed the cars in the driveway. Now it's close to freezing, and a little snow on the way.

Found the last couple cans of beer our neighbors brought back for us from Texas, stashed in the back of the fridge. A nice blonde ale.

Don’t bother, it’s not cold enough to activate the brown fat. (I don’t think so anyway)
Couldn't resist the first ever February swim. We had the worst ever ice storm last year this time. We we're out of electricity for 5days. Water temp hit 72.5 though so what a contrast! Cloud cover kept the temp lower though. 👎

For the record, yes I dunked and did the back stroke...to keep my rock hard abs up! 😁

Duck Dude got lonely. Axel is blowing us away living on air and still getting up and around. Hope I have that much spunk at the end.

Time for something bigger

When my cat had a reoccurrence of cancer the vet said the cat didn’t know it was sick. The kitty let us know it was time to let her go when she wouldn’t eat her favorite treats. 😢 still sucks to think about it. 🍻 Here’s to Axel.

Got me thinking where's @camonick been? Hope all is well...

Well…
I had a rotator cuff (plus extra) surgery on December 5. Was recovering from that and doing therapy twice a week. Was supposed to be released to return to light duty work with restrictions on January 29. Ended up with trips to the ER on Jan 26 & 27 and admitted to the hospital for another 4 days with blood clots (pulmonary embolisms) in both lungs. Now I’m recovering from that also. On blood thinners now and have a lot of upcoming appointments with various specialists. To say the least, I’ve been on a forced hiatus from alcohol for a few months now. Feeling much better now and finally back to part time work. I’ll have to see how much longer I have to stay on the wagon.
Thanks for thinking about me.

Hope you're back to 100% soon! I'll hoist one for you. HB Zappa Kellerbier.

Having a wee test after cold-crashing. This is from a primary! It's been a week since pitch with the mighty Voss, and apparently I only know how to make hazy beers...sigh. Guess the brown sugar was a bad idea.

Massive citrus hit in the aroma, and then evolving into melon as it warms. Taste is a lot of apricot and malt for the first bit, then into the Cascade earth/pine and a super clean finish. Nice!

It is clearing up near the top, but even with the slowest of pours from my keg, it still has some junk in suspension. 8psi on gas and a 2ºC fridge will hopefully get it clearing. Weird...whirlfloc, the mighty Voss and gelatine...still like this. Cheers...?:tank:

No matter, I have some backup brews while I recharge the keg.
