An Altbier is, essentially, a cold fermented ale. I’m using US-05 @60° F. At final gravity I drop it to 35° and leave it for a week, or so. It’s a lager-like beer which I like this time of year. A darker beer which isn’t sweet or heavy. My recipe is hopped to about 35 IBU (Magnum and Willamette) and finishes around 4.5%. A nice balance between the malt and hops.

I’ve never used Kviek. I’d guess you could brew an Alt with it as long as you could “lager” it long enough to develop the crisp, lager like quality which makes the style different from, say, an Amber Ale.

Yes ... I do that with my Kveik Kolsches... Kveik ferments clean without temp controls, although if you ferment really hot it develops tangerine, lemon and orange esters.. these flavors are actually desirable for a nice Kolsch.

If you have never tried the Kveik you should really give it a whirl .. the Voss Kveik dry is like 4.99 a packet and it can be re-harvested and dried again in very low oven on wax paper and repitched over and over .. that's the way the Norwegian farmhouse brewers have done it for centuries. Lutra Kveik is even better.

Being forthright, I'm not sure if I like the Boulevard because it reminds me of the bike I ride (Suzuki Boulevard) or that it's 12% ABV. It is growing on me though.

It looks D-Lish! Something to have during the Holiday with some spice when it's -15° with The Hawk bearing down outside !
