Some HM blackcurrant wine

Carb check on the German pils I kegged yesterday. Getting there. It’s funny seeing the solids that were trapped in the Flotit 2.0 being ejected into the glass. This is a healthy beer brimming with globules packed full of vitamins, minerals, and proteins. It’s a veritable wonder tonic.

The new tap, well 2, showed up so I put together my next attempt at cheaply mimicking a beer engine with filling from the bottom of the glass. It worked surprisingly well, and the dark mild tastes much better, more like a beer engine, than from a typical tap.

Oh, that's clever...

I'll betcha that a pin vise, a bit of acrylic rod, and some 120min epoxy could be used to fabricate a disposable sparkler at the end of the tubing. Hmmmm.

On the road for a few days, up the North Shore of Lake Superior. After a day of hiking a few of the many cool parks along the way, we're in Grand Marais, MN. Having beers at Voyageur Brewing (Doppelbock for me, Belgian wheat for Mrs. Stout), and a charcuterie board with smoked herring.

Pizza Port is brewhouse with 8 brewpubs in and around the San Diego area. They make a mighty fine West Coast IPA, Swami’s, a 6.8% ABV delicious thirst quencher of a brew.

After cracking open my can, I could smell the hops 2 feet away on this one! Swami’s features Chinook, CTZ, Cascade, Centennial, Citra and Simcoe in this citrusy, piney tasting brew. I picked up on the Simcoe immediately, it’s one of my favorites.

There’s so much to do the next time I’m in San Diego. This is a fantastic IPA, but there are dozens, maybe HUNDREDS!!!! Moderate head, good lacing, Check out Pizza Port the next time you are in San Diego or North County area!

Definitely tempted, but then I started reading the sparkler/no sparkler argument rabbit hole...

I may try a plastic air pump nozzle first to see if that gets me to a comfortable middle ground. I do think the tubing diameter is a bit too big to effectively knock out the right amount of CO².

This is my completely garbage hooptie rig based upon a plastic pump. It's terrible, but it doesn't suck. In fact, it doesn't do a terrible job at smashing out the CO2 while shoving some oxygen into the ale. You simply fill the bottle off of the keg, then pump it out into your glass.

It ain't great, nor does it suck, and it is cheap. Checks my boxes just fine.

I think I'd like it better with your extended spout. That would allow me to rig a hooptie sparkler.

That said, I use this less than I should. Kegland products are the Acme Corporation of homebrewing. They tend to be too clever by half. In this case, the pump always seems to jam in the most bizarre ways possible. To their credit, it still works (sorta) five years later. Out of the box it was half broken, but I fixed it with a bit of repair work...mostly. It has been consistently troublesome, but there's something to be said for consistency, I suppose. Consistency is a part of quality, right?

That's kind of genius, a bit like a cask and mini engine. And for $13, not a bad way to go at it.

I think I am going to figure out a sparkler attachment tomorrow.

Not unlike Kegland, "sorta genius." Company motto: "Empowering idiots since...sometime around 2010."

I wish you the best and I'm eager to learn more. :bigmug:

Enjoy!! I’d love to hear about your journey. I’ll be spending a week later this summer in Voyagers National Park, at Kabetogama Lake. My wife and I are flying to Rochester, then driving up with our son and two grandsons to rent a cabin and fishing boat on the lake.

You're going to have a blast! You'll likely pass through Duluth on the way. It's an awesome beer town for a small city. Canal Park Brewing and Lake Superior Brewing are very good and have decent food. If you want good bbq, check out OMC.

Feel free to PM me any time.

I can remember having my first Dale’s Pale Ale in Colorado back around 2013 or 2014. On Interstate 25 between Denver and Colorado Springs, there is the small town of Castle Rock. Take the Meadows Parkway Exit and you’re a stone’s throw from a spectacular wine and beer shop called Bubbles Liquor World. I was impressed!

I’d heard about Longmont, Colorado’s Oskar Blues Brewing and their great beer Dale’s Pale Ale. One of my “must-do’s” on my Colorado trip was to track down some fresh Dale’s and give it a try. Finding Dale’s Pale Ale in Colorado turned out to be super easy! Seems Dale’s had a following with some of the outdoors people – offering some of the first craft brews to be served in cans. This helps to keep the Colorado environment pristine - by making easy the packing out with whatever you packed in! Beer in aluminum cans made that task a whole lot easier!

Dale’s is a 6.5% ABV delicious Pale Ale. That’s an American Pale Ale as mentioned on the can. Actually, nearly going on an Amber Ale looking at the color. As a regular drinker of Sierra Nevada, drinking a can of Dale’s is a great opportunity to see what other directions a brew can take while existing in the same genre.

This is a fantastic beer, decent head and terrific lacing, make sure to head on down to the local bottle shop, Dale’s is available nearly everywhere. Cheers!

Also check the dates, Dales Stale is not nearly as good as a fresh can of Dale's. I wouldn't touch it if it's more than 2 months old.

Lounging in a chair along the shore of Superior, with a cold one.

That one is top of my list for IPAs. Funny enough back almost decade ago it was the only American IPA I could get my hands on in the NL and then I would have to take a ferry from Rotterdam to Hull and I could buy a couple cases on the ferry to take home.

Gorgeous backdrop you have there.

Welp, finally saw a doctor who explained what happened. I tore muscles in my lower calf where tendons are attached. Said if I was a pro athlete, I'd be out for the season. Anyway that deserves a Pint House Electric Jellyfish with some Tacos.
