Lunch and a sample of my first ever saison straight from the unitank. At 8.4% ABV you could definitely get in trouble with this one. So smooth you'd never know it had such a high ABV.

I brew very few ipa's but I'd like to change that. So I have another question for you. RE: your wp hop addition. The 1oz per gallon, is that based on the wp volume of wort in the kettle, or based on your predicted amount of bottled/kegged beer?
Based on actual volume at time of adding hops.

Like an old pal, Paulaner is one of those brew houses that never fails to disappoint. Since 1634, they are one of the seven Munich breweries allowed to brew for the annual Oktoberfest celebration. Grabbing onto my goofy and cartoonish vintage Paulaner Maßkrug is like coming home, Baby! This beer is where it’s at!

Paulaner is responsible for the re-formulated celebratory beer used at Oktoberfest celebrations from Munich to Leavenworth to Big Bear! For years, a heavier Märzenbier was preferred, nowadays a much more chuggable Festbier is the most consumed brew. Actually, I like both styles, but this one is just soooo…drinkable! It’s that good!

Nothing like gulping it out of a heavy stone mug, put both hands around it, open wide and tip back! I remember Beer-Loving Daughter #1 slumped face down in her mug, unable to raise head much further… “This beer is sooooo good!” 6% ABV means you’ll be staggering over to the drunk bus back to the hotel after about 5 of these 1-liter mugs. How much can a human take? Do it again! Eins, zwei, drei….. Prost!

Steppe Brother Imperial Stout.

Made this in January. I wanted an imperial that tasted like Old Rasputin. This one was very sweet, so I thought it was a failure. Decided to risk 6 ounces just now. It's way better. Much dryer. Very easy to drink. But it needs more hops. Maybe Lutra was a mistake. I should check the carbonation and make sure it's high enough. Anyway, I give it a solid B.

Can't really taste the alcohol, but it's supposed to be 8.6%, if Beersmith is right. I would like to feel some heat.

Can't hit a home run every time, but it's pretty good, and I think Old Rasputin is $3 per bottle.

Oh, hey...there's the alcohol. Hello, there.

This year's been a butt-kicker. Short version, I'm working on the eulogy for my dad. This was a couple days ago, it was really good. Today was a couple Pliny's and a Brewery X Double Hazy. So far. There's still a lot of daylight left.
