Saw them at Candlestick Park in San Fransisco, they opened for the Rolling Stones. Had to be 1981 or possibly early 1982. I was stationed in Vallejo for school. Their lead guy was doing a thing dancing with a long ribbon on a stick and twirling it all around at the time. They were good, but yeah, I was there to see the Stones.
I saw the same tour when they opened for the Rolling Stones at the old Kingdome in Seattle. Mick Jagger was in a high reach bucket they swirled around above the crowd!

Kicking off the Halloween weekend with this beauty from either @orionol73 or maybe crookedlaker. I don’t remember.

Boy this is good!

You’d think on Halloween I’d be sipping on something like pumpkin ale, huh? Not a chance! Rather, I thought I’d take a walk on the dark side – dark IPA’s that is…. And Stone with its’ black can and Gargoyle has to be the spookiest!

Stone Brewing brought back their 2007 version black IPA by drinker’s request. I know that the idea of a “Black” “Pale Ale” goes against all grammatical conventions, but whoever claimed we half-inebriated beer drinkers were English majors, eh?

Add me to the camp who insist this style category someday be changed to the “other name” – Cascadian Dark Ales or CDA. Black IPA really is a misnomer in my book. Of course Dad mentioned something about us chewing the pages off our books, so maybe that book gets tossed out when it comes to fine ales!

I really need to brew this. I’ve been working on a recipe for some time, but you know, 5 gallons of 8.7% ABV dark IPA is a commitment for sure. I guess I need a few more buds to help me polish it off, any volunteers? Enjoy!

We give so much attention to Bavarian brews this time of year, let’s not overlook some of the great Northern German beers. Today we have Berliner Geschichte, since 1237!

Brewed under the beer purity law of 1516, this is a 6.7% Bock beer, pouring and tasting a lot like a heavyweight Helles. Yes, bigger than a Helles, similar but a larger grain bill I’d guess, malty and restrained hopping. Bocks originally get their name from another Northern German town of Einbeck, the word bock being a play on the town name.

Bocks usually have pictures of goats on them, another German play on words regarding goats. Where are the goats, I see no goats! Good brew, Prost!

My wife needs that beer in her life, gonna have to make a trip to Richmond, geeee darn..

The Veil makes some amazing funk and other beers.

Homebrew pale ale. The goal was “what if Sierra Pale and Celebration had a baby”? 10 Lbs pale malt, 1 Lb C-60. 2:1 ratio Cascade:Centennial throughout including dry hop. Dry hopped at yeast pitch (BRY-97) 1oz Cascade 1/2oz Centennial, puny by today’s standards. And if you look closely it magically changes color depending on which hand I hold it in. ;)
