Back in May or maybe early June I asked Mrs. BY if she’d ever want to try brewing. To my surprise she jumped at the chance. She loves high abv, thick, chewy stouts so I designed a recipe that I thought she might like. She brewed a small one gallon batch back in May/June to get her feet wet. It was enough to fill seven 16oz flip tops, and an eighth one about 2/3 full. Well tonight we opened the partial bottle to see how it’s progressing ( the other seven are being saved until Xmas). Damn......she really nailed it. It’s so good. 10.5% with no alcohol burn, and it’s thick and chewy as well. She’s already talking about brewing it again but scaling up to 5 gallons and kegging it.

Hey man, rumors are it hit 120 in SLO. How'd that go?

Yeah, I read that it did indeed hit 120° at Cal Poly earlier today. We hit a cool, comfortable 104° around 2pm here in Nipomo. I had planned an afternoon brew day but with that kind of heat I just couldn't do it. Relief tomorrow as it's forecast to be in the low 70's so I'm extending my weekend, taking tomorrow off, and brewing a "Schwarzbier" with Kveik yeast.
