I used a Sumatran from a local place for my coffee stout and it worked really well. Strong bean but it has lower acidity so you get smoother flavor without that bitter bite some more acidic coffees can have.

Did you do a coarse grind on them?

Did you do a coarse grind on them?

I used 3oz's and crushed them in a Baggie with a rolling pin and then added 2 oz of whole bean put them all in vodka for 5 days, strained them through soaked sanitized cheesecloth, sterilized some plain dental floss in starsan and hung them in primary at day 14 of fermentation for 3 days and I had a very nice coffee flavor. Now I still have some of that stout left as I bottle and I had onecthecother day at 5 months and the coffee was present on aroma but not nearly pronounced on the palate as it was fresh as I would expect. So if it's long term ageing is up the beans but Sumatra was a nice choice as there was just heavy coffee but no acidic or bitter bite from it.

Club brewed Dampfbier after getting a joint sour mash for this weekend's Gose and Lichtenhainer squared away. Temp at 120°F, pH dropped to 4.47, covered with saran wrap, and "purged" with a small piece of dry ice, and innoculated with grain. Will check in the AM and add boiling water if needed to keep the temp 110°F or so from here on out.

Nice thanks.

What are you doing up this early? Usually only rats, cats, billy klubs, and bucknuts are up at these hrs.

Didn't sleep well and now that every hawk, other bird and every other ****ing animal in the woods is making noise, there's no possible way I'll get back to sleep. ****ing zoo.

I've never brewed this early. But, believe me, I really contemplated doing so.

Wow, when I made one all I did was take coffee grounds and dump in primary. Week or so later rack into a keg and have at it. I think I ought to use whole bean (cracked) rather than preground next time.

@Remmy is just excited about the new job. Coffee. Trying to not wake the telephone at work.

My poor little drinking buddy had a rough day. I set a trap for the stray cat that attacked him. Hope to catch him.

Ack. Must have bothered you so much you woke up early on your day off.

Beer snobbery of the worst kind: http://thefullpint.com/dans-blog/review-of-fort-myers-florida-craft-beer-scene/

Poorly written, edited, and not a positive about two of their experiences. I've never been to these places or had their beer, but they need to take some lessons from Michael Jackson. I'll be commenting on their little article shortly and unsubscribing from their newsletter.

Edit: My comment is awaiting approval. Doubt it will make it. Oh well, the unsubscribe button just worked fine.

I felt the same when they bought boulevard. Douvel did state that they wanted to buy five established craft breweries in the US covering all regions. They have boulevard, ommegang and now firestone walker so they are pretty close, if not there, already.

Yeah, I see them going after a brewery in the PNW or southeast (FL most likely) next. So far, their acquisitions have been far more positive than negative. They have vastly improved QC (particularly with Boulevard) and obviously distribution. If they continue to leave the brewers to be independent and allow creativity then I'd say this is a workable model for "larger" brewing conglomerates.

I agree. I was worried too many things would change with boulevard but they just seemed to have expanded distro and their lineup. Hopefully it stays that way and doesn't take a turn for the worst.

+1.
If they keep that up in the long term with multiple established breweries it should be fine. The only concern from an owners stand point would be the legacy. What happens in 20 years when they want to roll over the brews and change the name on the label to something else? Its a family run organization, Duval, but this is a completely hypothetical question I'm sure they ask themselves.

Holy crap it is early. Went to sleep to early, now I am paying the price. Oh well.

Good morning everyone.

Meh... early. I get up at 0500 3 days a week, 0415 2 days a week, and then my body gets me up by 0600 on the weekend. D*mn early shift for too many years to sleep in.

Coffee. I am going in late today, and was still up by 0600. Even though the alarm was set later. Apparently I was posting a lot last night.... apparently. :drunk:
