It was -18F when I got up yesterday. This morning it's 21 above. Single digits predicted for tomorrow, then back up to 20s for the weekend and upper 30s early next week. This thermal rollercoaster is crazy.

Having my morning joe. Home-roasted Chiapas Mexican, med roast.

Got some chiapas on my last order of beans, haven't roasted them yet but excited to give them a shot. Medium roast is our usual.

If it's anything like the beans I bought, it'll yield a nice, warm cup. It's one of my favorites, but my local supplier, Mill City Roasters, is out of it. Sales guy said they get it in a few times a year.

Weltenburger Kloster, since 1050. This is one “big bad beer,” and I mean “bad” in a good way! It’s a Big Boy!

7.3% ABV, Asam Bock is a Dunkler Dopplebock, or Dark Double Bock. Weltenburger Kloster is the World’s Oldest Monastery Brewery, just 10 years younger than Weihenstephaner’s 1040, and located about an hour North of there. Reminds me a bit of Weihenstephaner’s Korbinian Dopplebock, 7.4% ABV. Not saying they’re preaching the same Gospel, but there’s a lot of similarity here!

It's another beer with big dark esters – I’m picking up raisin, plum and dark fruit, a big presentation, malty and Continental hopping which is both balanced and restrained. Weltenburger’s Asam Bock has this style nailed! This is a great end of the evening beer. Some are sippin’ Brandy by the fire, some their Cognac. Nah, buncha wimps. For me, it’s Dunkler Dopplebock!
