View attachment 854722Coffee this morning as I’m up with the new puppy. We decided our pack needed a third dog b/c it hasn’t been the same all week since losing Bella. I finally tired her out so I can sit, enjoy coffee and watch some of the Olympics this morning.
We wanted to rescue a dog from a local shelter. Unfortunately our now oldest dog is a rescue (Charlotte) who’s very selective around other dogs. We knew it would be a lot of work and may only lead to issues that never go away when a lot of the dogs at the local shelters say they are best as a single pet in a house. So a puppy would be the best way to introduce a new dog to our pack. So far it’s been going really well and Charlotte (our selective dog) loves playing with the puppy and is so good with her.
Coffee from the Dream Bean coffee shop in Grand Marais, MI (roasted in Traverse City, MI). Nice light roast, fruity, clean and slightly acidic. Perfect as my home roasted beans have time to off gas.
Cheers to the new pack member!

Now it's time to go for some beer swapping shopping

Late brunch before they turn these into tacos. NH businesses are doing an eat local for the month. Most breweries around here do unhealthy foods. You laugh but id have this everyday. However, you put a fried chix or onion rings in front of my face I'll eat it.

With a N/A Notch (Mass) Hazy. Not bad. Can pour. A little metalically but aroma and taste is good.

That haddock corn chowder sounds delicious. A nice sized serving of that in a sourdough bread bowl on a fall afternoon and I'd be very happy.
 
I don't see Genesee at home so had to give this a try when I spotted it in Spanish Fort, AL. I'm not familiar with cream ale so can't say how it compares but I like it. A hint of biscuit aroma, a little malt taste, just a touch of hops, nice body, moderate carbonation. Hard to beat at $1.69 for 24 oz. Hope I can find others to compare it.

Radeberger vs Bitburger – Wow, has there ever been a closer match up than these two? Sort of like a weigh-in for that high school wrestling match – these two are in the same class!

Bitburger – really a fantastic German Pilsner – 4.8% ABV, hopping 23 IBU, continental hops. Produced in where else? Bitburg Germany, in the North near the Luxembourg/Belgium borders, since 1817.

Funny thing - looks like they are using the iconic Student Prince image in their marketing – funny, that was also used back in the day by Columbia/Heidelberg Brewing in Tacoma, near my hometown of Olympia. I remember one time Dad found one heck of a deal on Heidelberg and brought back a couple cases. We were drinking Heidelberg! That was walking on thin ice – some of our family had worked at hometown Olympia Brewery!

Radeburger – again a fantastic German Pilsner. Radeberger has been kicking around since 1872 in where else? Radeberg, Germany! More hometown brewers, I love it! Another Northern brew, this one is close to the town of Dresden and the nearby Czech border. Again, 4.8% ABV, but this time 33 IBU - continental hops as you would expect.

I raised both glasses up to my mouth, pivoting on my elbows and dumped them in, A & B! One of my favorite things to do! Honestly I cannot tell the difference between these two, even despite the 10 point IBU difference. I mean, these are REALLY right on! I can’t tell the diff, and I taste a LOT of brews, these are great examples of German Pilsner! Delicious! Prost!

It was a dude at work that made me and my dad one back in 2011. He was the first to introduce me to Bitcoin. Said I should just buy and hold, see what happens...it was $1. Now I just want to drink more...

You know Nebraska is the smartest school in the USA because the N stands for Nowledge!! A manager at work, Michigan fan, told me that every....single....time....he saw me
 
Getting near the end of second keg of batch 199, brewed 3/1/24

10 gallons;

20 # Great Western "superior" pilsner

FW 1 oz N brewer

40 min boil (out of 80 min total) 1 oz Tetanger

S189 from previous batch. Ferment at 54 F

If this looks similar to some of my other recent posts, you have are correct. I'll often do a run of the same beer with different brand of malt, Pilsner in this case, so I can get an idea what difference a single ingredient make. Sometimes I'll just run the same malts and switch out one of the hops.

I can taste the difference between the different iterations of similar brew, but I'm pretty good at brewing what I like to drink, so they all taste pretty darn good. I probably would not make too good of a beer Judge, but if someone wanted a malt recommendation to trend toward malty or crisp, for example, I might be able to help.
