My friends and I used to sing a competition song when we were loaded. Basically, you each take turns coming up with a new rhyme. You go around the table and the song entertains (or annoys) the other folks at the bar depending on the time of night. Strangers are welcome to step up and take a turn if they wish... and then the game continues around your table. First one to fail to come up with one has to sing the closing lines and has to buy the next round. It's best to play this game with liters or larger vessels because if there are a large number of players with ample time to get creative, it can go on for quite some time... I know once we made it over the two hour mark....
Here's a couple of sample verses. I wish I could tell you what tune it is sung to. A search on the internet reveals a lot of opinions and, well, they're all like a$$holes... none of them are quite right. I guess maybe it's a regional thing. My friends and I started singing it one particular way and that's now just how we do it. Here's the song with some sample lyrics...
CHORUS: I used to work in Chicago at the old department store. I used to work in Chicago but I don't work there anymore.
Then the first contestant sings something like: A young lady came in for some carpet.
(everybody shouts) "Some carpet from the store?!"
First contestant: Carpet she wanted, SHAGGED SHE GOT! So I don't work there anymore.
CHORUS
Second contestant: A young lady came in for some bolts...
Everyone: SOME BOLTS FROM THE STORE??!!!
Second contestant: Bolts she wanted, ME NUT SHE GOT! So I don't work there anymore...
CHORUS
Third contestant: A young lady came in for a Jeep
Everyone: A JEEP FROM THE STORE?
Third contestant: A Jeep she wanted, but a HUMMER I GOT! So I don't work there anymore...
CHORUS
Losing contestant: A young lady came in for a... a... uhh... awww F*CK!
(this is usually shouted as an exclamation upon realizing that you have nothing new to add...)
Everyone: A F*CK FROM THE STORE?
Losing contestant: A f*ck she wanted, a f*ck she got, so I don't work there anymore....
