Hi everyone, this is a great forum and very informative. My problem is ,I always use well water (as ilive inthe country) for washing and sterilizing my wine bottle, never had a problem.I have a 18 litre carboy full of wine ready to bottle ,6 months old.Since last bottling i now have a hydrogen sulfite smell in my well water, question is this, would it effect my washing and sterilizing the bottles and ruin my wine using it. Thanks for all the replies. Tom

Thanks for the reply, actually i was just using the water for cleaning and rinsing. Also found out by running water into sink it kind os areates as it splashes into the sink which causes the smell to desperse. Thanks again for the reply wine is now bottled . Tom

Is the smell in the hot or cold water? I also live in the country and have used well water to wash and sterilize without any issue. If it's only the hot water it's your anode rod in the hot water heater. If it's the cold too it's the water and needs filtered

I live in South Florida and am on well. I have a water softener and an air raider. I am.lucky not to get a super smell out of treated water. I do use my water for rinsing and cleaning. I buy spring water to brew with.

Thank you, I use spring water also and sometimes go to a Artesian well down the road just to compare wine flavour and taste. Just used this well water for washing and rinsing. Thanks for your answer. We used to go to Florida in winter months and stayed around the Seminole? area. Tom

Nice.
I'm in the Ft Myers area. The Seminole area is about 50 min from me. It's nice that you have a place to compare to down the road from you.

I used to use my well water for brewing and wine making...still use it for washing and rinsing. I would often get the sulphur smell...and rust and after heavy rains, all kinds of stuff!

If you draw up a five gallon bucket and let it sit a couple of days, all the smell will disipate and the solids will settle out given time. I always have 10-15 gallons on hand that I treated with camden tablets. Hey...you live in the country, you're on a well, things happen...you need to keep water ready and be prepared, not just for brewing or wine making.
