I always had a little chuckle when I read about someone transferring wort to a kettle and forgetting to close the valve so it drained onto the floor.

Yeah...not so funny anymore.

On top of that I was so frazzled that I forgot to add hops until about 5 minutes left in the boil. I decided to extend the boil by 20 minutes and use the no chill method in hopes of salvaging some hop utilization.

As you can imagine my efficiency wasn't great but I still made beer.

Don't feel too bad. I just made a yeast starter with lactose.

Or more accurately, I put some yeast in some lactose and water for 24 hours. Didnt realize it until I went looking for my lactose to add to the brew.

You could have boiled for the proper 60 or 90 minutes after your hop discovery. Wouldn't have hurt your gravity either, being a bit low from the unintentional floor wort experiment.

I've drained a gallon of first running into my sparge water after forgetting to close the valve. The rushing sound got my attention, and strange enough it takes a good 10-20 seconds to find the cause, and valve.

You still made beer! :mug:
