Weldless Fittings - O Ring Location?

When installing a weldless fitting in a keggle, should the silicon o-ring go on the outside, or the inside?

I have seen illustrations that show it in both positions.

One set of instructions, which made sense to me, put the o-ring on the outside, and the inside coupling being the part that is tightened. This is supposed to prevent the o-ring from being mangled in the tightening.

Yeah, they show the locknut on the INSIDE in that pic.

So, it looks like coupler, washer, o-ring, inside keggle wall (all inside), locknut, faucet (both outside).

That makes sense, I can tighten the locknut from the outside, not worry about mangling the o-ring, then put the faucet on.

Sorry for deletion. I just looked at mine. You're right. But the locknuts have recesses in them for the o-rings. Makes things much nicer, they won't deform as you tighten.

In practice our kits can be installed with the locknut inside or out.

Only one oring between the locknut and keg wall is needed to form a seal.

Placing one behind a flat washer just distorts the o-ring and does not create a reliable seal.

You can tighten the locknut on the nipple, add one oring, slide it through the hole and then tighten down the fitting. Adding the coupling on will not further tighten the fitting if the locknut is inside.

get an extra o ring they are cheap, and put in the inside and outside of the kettle, bargain fittings include both
