So I bought a plastic secondary about a month ago, have used it twice as of today. The first time I used it though I put some water/sugar in it that was too hot :drunk: and it slightly melted one of the sides. I rinsed it out real good and waited for it to cool down and all that

but then I realized that on both batches I made and put through the secondary, there is a layer on top, has the rainbow-ish characteristics like when you see gasoline on the road. Its a really thin layer, not filmy or anything like that. I just noticed it after I filled the carboy.

I didnt notice it with any other beers, so I am attributing it to carboy, and possibly something to do with the melting of it a while back.

Any ideas?

that could be it, but the past two batches I used only about 2oz each. I use 3x that in my ipa....you think i just missed it before?

I was looking for it this time, so its entirely possible

I get the rainbows on most of my brews... I am also leaning towards hop oil. I am not sure if star san leaves rainbows or not...

I'm going to go with hop oils, as well.

I've seen it in almost every beer I've done, to some extent. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Give it a taste. If you don't notice anything, you're in the clear!
