someone help me find the threads where there is discussion about what beer is best to brew in what weather/season. I'm having no luck, and I'm pretty sure that has been discussed before. Whether it is for drinking, yeast activity, whatever. I know that Octoberfest, for example, should be scheduled to be ready in Sept/Oct, but I don't lager, so are there rules of thumb for ales? porters, stouts, etc.?

There really aren't any since most people control their brewing environment and brew what they like when they like. Some people like lighter ales in hot weather and dark ales in the winter. Of course, you have to brew two months ahead of the cycle.
