I was going to install a water filter on my brewstand is there any problem with just hooking up a garden hose directly to it? or do I have to get a potable water hose I mean as long as its going thru filter right?

Best get a hose labeled for human consumption. Garden hoses all warn not to drink water out of them because they leach led. You don't want that in your beer.

I brew all of my beers using water from the standard green hose, no health issues so far.

Just get an RV hose. Or make a hose from reinforced vinyl which is cheap and food-safe.
