Wasn't sure which sub forum to post to but since water is the main ingredient figured I'd post here. I have always used water from "Windmill" water stations around town which I believe is just carbon filtered water. So after a year of making these runs sometimes even after starting my brew day I decided to build my own filter.
Went to Lowes and purchased a GE canister filter and all the fittings to allow me to attach to my outdoor faucet. The filter is an 8 or 10 micron and carbon fiber combo. I have made two brews with this water but have yet to taste as they aren't finished yet. The first brew day I used this filter the water tasted great. My second brew day, about a week later, there was a noticeable "rubber hose" taste.
I am using the white drinking water hose for inlet and a clear open ended hose for the outlet so I am assuming the taste is coming from the outlet. My question is, has anyone had any experience with a similar set up? I know if the beer tastes fine then no worries but I havent tasted it yet. Also I am in South Texas so our water is pretty hard but has been fine when using the windmill water.
