Haha, this is epic. Would probably have a parental warning now. Popeye nailing the pipe and all. I think the original sesame street I grew up with has a warning. Alistair cookie, cookies alter ego, smoked a pipe too.

I never really watched popeye cartoons, Unless it was Jon Anderson making me.

(let's see who get's that reference)

^^Oh yeah, was watching a best of with my kids off YouTube. I think some of them were older. Not sure how old. They were black and white and really well done. I am a no on the Jon Anderson reference.

I remember a couple years ago when they started putting the first couple seasons of Sesame Street on DVD and they included a warning. Not because of smoking or anything, but because it was too innocent - like a kid meets David on the street and he invites her to his house for milk and cookies, and they in fact went and had milk and cookies. Now we don't encourage little ones to accept such invitations. The warning is something like "nostalgia value only."

No, whats that?

Sooo my wife is really starting to question if popeye is ok for the kids, haha. They love it though! She might have a point. Its the old b and w ones.

With Shelly Duval. Interesting film. Kind of different.

Directed by Robert Altman in his sort of journeyman phase between Nashville/MASH and his resurgence with The Player. Its a musical and was hastily greenlit after Paramount lost a bidding war for the rights to Annie. It was considered a flop.

I used to watch this on my uncle's videodisc player in the early 80's:

The set still exists, in Malta. Its called "Popeye Village":

Popeye is fine for kids. I watched it as a kid.

Wait. I joined the Navy. Maybe it DID influence me!

Popeye The Sailor is an all time favourite of mine!
There is a Roku channel that plays just Popeye.
Every time you return to the channel it picks up where you left off.
I have Popeye & Olive Oyl stickers on the rear window of my p/u.
Popeye is my idol! :pipe:
