I am making a pale ale 1.056 It is going to be the sg a. This will be a ten gal. Batch I have 4 pints of washed yeast how much dme and yeast and water do I need to make a starter .

I believe you want a starter with a gravity of 1.030-1.040.
I also believe a pound of DME in one gallon will give you around 1.040.

You might want to wait for someone else to chime in just in case but I'm pretty sure that's close to what you want.

Yeastcalc.com will give you everything you need to know. Starter size required, step sizes (if necessary), amount of DME to produce the right gravity starter, etc. If you try that out an still have questions, come back and ask them. It's pretty self explanatory, but some stuff can still be confusing.
