I received an all grain kit in the mail. It was several days late getting here. When I opened it the activator yeast pack was packed with a cold pack but the package was not cold at all. I have not used these yeast packs before and wondered if I should be concerned about the temp. of the yeast. Thanks for any input.:mug:

The yeast is almost certainly fine. You'll know for sure when you do your yeast starter. I suppose if it doesn't start you could always head south and hit up The Weekend Brewer in chester, VA for yeast.

But you'll be fine.

i take it that the pouch was swelled?

If it didn't and was warm, time to get a refund! fo sho!! :drunk: or you could pop the nutrient pouch and give it 24 hours to see what happens.

+1 to previous post - if you can make a starter, do it up. if not and it swelled, you most likely have some viable yeast, but you may suffer a longer lag time.

Same thing just happened to me. I will find out tomorrow when I smack the pack if I still have a viable yeast pack. If not, I have some dry yeast as a backup. That's always a good idea to have around just in case!

I had a pack come in that was swelled a bit before because UPS delivered it to the wrong house. When I did get it, I was able to pop the nutrient pack a few days later (best to do this a day before brewing). If it swells like a football then your fine, if it doesn't then call up and you will most likely get a new one.

I even had a dud on White Labs before and they were very helpful in replacing the bad yeast.

Well I ended up getting some yeast from another batch of beer that I racked into my secondary. It's the wrong yeast but it did ferment. I also called Homebrew.com where I ordered from and they sent me a whole new kit. So with some luck I might get 10 gallons of good beer out of the ordeal. Thanks for all your help.
