Maybe not the right place for this question as its not technically beer equipment.

Just ordered 45+lb vittle vault’s via amazon and the o-rings are so loose they fall off when you set the lid upside down..even carefully. Curious if this is normal or if I got a knockoff. Either way I’m looking for a better o-ring.

I saw on v-vault’s website they have o-ring replacements. Anyone try these yet and would they fit better? Thanks in advance to anyone taking the time to reply.

I have 2 vaults I use for grain storage. I've not run in to the o-ring issue you are describing. They do have a 1 year warranty. I would email them: [email protected] This may be an issue they are aware of.

I too would try to resolve the problem with the manufacturer. If not I would try the replacement o-rings, and as a last resort, gluing them in place with silicone caulk.

Thanks again for the replies. Thought about the chaulk idea but decided with everyone so happy with these I may have gotten a bad batch or ended up with amazon knockoffs

Ask them for some more o-rings... i have not had this issue with my 3x vittle vaults but I have had this issue with teh tops themselves that I purchased for 5-7g buckets. You could also try some keg lube to "help" hold it in place.

if all else fails a neat trick you can do is cut the oring and take a small piece out then super-glue it back together. For this purpose it won't see much stress, and it'll hold. Aircraft repair guys do this often... "make your own" o-ring.

Kind of terrifying that aircraft repair comes down to scissors and superglue. Not very reassuring lol

Apparently it's supported by the manufac of the o-rings too. Some of the mechanics carry just "rope" and make orings on the fly. I guess it probably depends on what you're using the oring for, or maybe the bonding of the superglue is stronger than the actual rubber itself. I can't seem to find any evidence supporting this claim, but i remember going down a youtube rabbit hole once and an ASE certified mechanic was sharing what his "friend" told him regarding creating an oring. I guess take it with a grain of salt *shrug*

But i wouldn't hesitate to just glue the oring shut on a grain bucket that i'm just trying to keep o2 out. They do sell the gaskets , but at $8 a pop i bet you could find something similar sized/shaped. I had a vitavault crack on me (i was stacking them vertically, which apparently they can't handle). So i took the "gamma lid" off and used it on a 5g bucket to keep starsan. I have the larger vaults, 60lb ones... so i don't know if the smaller one have a smaller lid but i'd assume they're all the same gamma lids.

I used to make Viton O-Rings all the time for vacuum vessels. 20' Diameter vessel, approximately 63' long Piece of Viton cleaned with alcohol, scuffed, cleaned again and glued with CA

Is it a Vittle Vault brand or some Chinese knockoff? In any case, it might be that they provided rings that are too narrow and won't stay in place in the groove. Contact the vendor and see if they'll make good.

I have 2 of the same vittle vaults and one's o-ring is now gone after becoming too large to allow the lid to be screwed on. I have contacted vv CS and not gotten satisfaction but was told you can buy replacement VV lids with 0-rings on Amazon.

I have found when any o-ring or seal stretches and no longer fits as designed to just put it in the freezer for an hour or so. The cold will shrink it and that process has never failed me. You might want to try that before ordering any replacement.

It appears to be a legitimate vittles vault. All the branding appears the same as what I’ve seen at local pet stores.

That said I’ve received items from Amazon before that look like the real thing at first glance but ended up being knockoffs.

I’ve done this in the past and have no idea why I didn’t think to do it. I haven’t found it to be a long term solution but it sure does work in a pinch. If memory serves me correctly I also used to do this with plastic mag bicycle rims.
