Vintage GE Fridge Kegerator Question

So I finally found a vintage GE fridge to use for my first kegerator build. I'm in the process of stripping everything down and prepping it but am having a hard time figuring out what to do with the logo. It looks like that someone at somepoint painted over it with white paint, but I can't seem to find another old GE fridge with the same logo to compare. Some of the white is wearing off and I see some silver underneath, but it doesn't look chrome. I've google image searched almost everything I can think of. If anyone has seen this logo before or has any ideas that would be greatly appreciated!

If, as you say, you're stripping it, after the door liner comes off, remove the retainers for the emblem, and restore it.

Probably held on with "press nuts" or "tinnerman nuts".

In my first post I said that I google imaged searched. None of those match exactly to the logo I attached a picture of.

That logo does look very close, but the chrome trim on the bottom of yours extends the entire length of the logo, my bottom trim does not.

Since you're going to cut holes in it anyway it's not like it's going to be stock anymore. I'd probably strip it and have it chromed along with anything else on it that needs rechroming (handle, hinges etc?).

I say make it look how you want it to look and don't worry too much about how someone 50 years ago wanted it to look.

Yeah, that's probably what I'm going to end up doing. I was just trying to figure out if I could strip the white off the logo and chrome be underneath. Thanks!

I second this. Mine is currently being stripped and repainted Metal flake black with a gun metal racing stripe. The logo is going to be all chrome.

If you're actually re-chroming it then that's probably your best bet. If you're on a budget, try polishing it up with a magic eraser. That's what worked best for mine to take off all the non-factory paint.

And be super careful pulling out the condenser. I wasn't careful enough and it only lasted about 2 weeks after having a pinhole leak where the copper coil meets the aluminum plate. Now mine is just taking up space until I have the money to overhaul the sealed system or the will to pull all 300 lbs back up the stairs and out to the scrap yard.

You've probably already seen it but kerber has an awesome, detailed thread about his kegerator conversion of a classic GE fridge (the logo's different so it wouldn't answer your specific question here, but the bodies look the same on the outside so there'd likely be some overlap on the inside as well). Good luck with the conversion, there's nothing like a classic kegerator!

Here is mine... also slightly different than yours but like the others. The lead paint polishes up great!

My guess is chrome as they really didn't need any polishing to get to the state you see them in. Most my time was spent buffing out scratches and rust spots. A few dings (down to the metal) filled with nail polish and a nice coat of wax.

I don't know if you've come up with a solution yet, but you might check with frod1963. He posted in kerber's thread and though the picture isn't close enough to get a detailed view of the logo, it looks similar to yours except that maybe the paint has been fully stripped.

Yeah, that does look pretty similar. I must of overlooked it even after going through kerber's thread countless times. Thanks! I'll shoot him a PM.
