I was going to brew over the weekend and was going to make a starter this time.... problem is that I don't have a flask or growler to use. Any ideas for a vessel that I might have around the house? milk jug? glass pitcher?

Flower vase, 2 liter coke bottle, anything that is big enough to hold your starter in.

Anything that's about 50% larger than your starter vol, able to be well sanitized (no scratches). I used to use a 1 liter stein before I bought a flask. If you use a stir plate, the bottom needs to be virtually flat.

Any glass or strong plastic container will work that you can sanitize...I've seen all sorts.

I've used a large spaghetti sauce jar before...It worked great on my stirplate when I didn't want to use my large flask for a small amount of harvesting yeast. You can use growler or a glass juice jar, even beer bottles.

And nowadays most of us aren't using airlocks, just sanitized tin foil instead.

seems easy enough. thanks for the quick advice. confirms what I thought... and a good reminder to look for scratches in my vessel of choice.

I used an empty bottle of Simply Lemonade and shook it a lot before I got my flasks/stir plate.
