Hi,

I do decoction brewing and I was thinking about using RIMS for boiling the mash instead of using a spoon.
Is it possible ?

An other related question : somebody has ever tried with RIMS to brew a wort in a normal way and ,
instead of doing a simple mash out, boil the entire mash for 30 minutes or more with hop ?

Thank you in advance,

"...instead of using a spoon"?
I think autocorrect might have mucked with that :)

Boiling the entire mash including spent grains and husks sounds like a really bad idea as it pretty much means extracting things from the mash that are better left behind (tannins, silicates, etd).

Anyway, can a RIMS even achieve/maintain boiling temperature in a kettle anywhere near sea level? Considering the volume inside the RIMS tube can't get much above the boiling point (a tenth or two ° due to internal pressures, maybe) thermal losses before reaching the kettle as well as kettle thermal losses would quickly put an end to that notion...

Cheers!

Thank you for your answers.

@Spartan1979 : I would like to boil during the mash out, I don't care anymore about enzymes.

@ Bramling Cross : when I decoct, I must stir with a spoon during 30-40 minutes.

@ day_trippr : during a triple decoction, a half of the total mash is boiled and there is no "husky" taste but a maltier one. I don't ask for the tasting result but for the technical interest of RIMS for boiling.

Maybe the good alternative could be an all-in-one brewing system with a mashout at the boiling temperature.
I have a Klarstein Brauheld 40 L, but I've heard that the pump doesn't like temperatures after 80 °C / 176 °F.
