I know Czech Saaz hops are used in many great pilsner and lager recipes but I want to try them in a house ale recipe since I am not set up to lager right now. Can anyone tell me what you think of the recipe I have below for a house ale to get BMC drinkers introduced to better home brew?

6 lbs 2-row
2 lbs 6-row
2 lbs flaked corn
1 lb flaked rice
4 oz crystal 10L
0.5 oz magnum 60 min (first wort hop)
1.0 oz Czech saaz 10 min
0.5 oz Czech saaz 5 min
0.5 oz Czech saaz 0 min
ferment with Nottingham yeast at 60-62 F.

Thanks

I have nothing productive to say, but noticed a lot of corn and you're in Iowa. Made me smile. Happy brewing!

Looks good, but VERY bitter and VERY hop flavored compared to BMC beers.

I'd love it! But may be a challenge for BMC'ers...

I made a single hop saaz amber ale that came out very well. Served it at a party couple of nights ago, and it received universal praise, but it was not a BMC crowd. Basic recipe is as follows:
Boil Size: 6.48 gal
Post Boil Volume: 5.98 gal
Batch Size (fermenter): 5.50 gal
Bottling Volume: 5.25 gal
Estimated OG: 1.052 SG
Estimated Color: 13.1 SRM
Estimated IBU: 44.2 IBUs
Brewhouse Efficiency: 72.00 %
Est Mash Efficiency: 75.3 %
Boil Time: 60 Minutes

Ingredients:
------------
Amt Name %/IBU
9 lbs Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM) 81.8 %
1 lbs 2.0 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (60.0 SRM) 10.2 %
9.0 oz Victory Malt (25.0 SRM) 5.1 %
5.0 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt -120L (120.0 SRM) 2.8 %
0.50 oz Saaz [8.90 %] - First Wort 60.0 min 16.6 IBUs
0.50 oz Saaz [8.90 %] - Boil 20.0 min 9.2 IBUs
0.75 oz Saaz [8.90 %] - Boil 10.0 min 8.3 IBUs
0.75 oz Saaz [8.90 %] - Boil 5.0 min 4.5 IBUs
1.00 oz Saaz [8.90 %] - Steep 10.0 min 5.5 IBUs
1.0 pkg American Ale II (Wyeast Labs #1272)

Mash @ 152 F for 60 mi
Brew on :mug:

ps. Tried to make columns line up, but HBT removes extra blanks.

Love the late additions, I would drink it for sure. And the late hop schedule should keep the bitterness down.
As for the grain bill im not too familiar with corn, rice or 6 row so no comment. Look forward to hearing about it though.

The Czech Saaz that I have is only rated at 3.75% where your recipe has it at 8.9%. Now I have serious hop envy.

My Saaz was probably an American variant. I copied the AA from the hops packaging. Not sure how the flavor/aroma might differ between the Czech and American varieties. My point was that the all Saaz brew had a great flavor. Your beer will be lighter and less hoppy, so the BMC'ers may really go for it.

Thanks for the reply. I will let you know how it turns out in 6-8 weeks. Now all I need is for the temps to go above 10 F so I can brew. My LP tanks don't work very well below this temp.
