Hi everyone,

I'd like to start making yeast starters. I don't have an erlenmeyer but I've used a coffee carafe with water to test out my DIY stir plate. Would there be any major drawbacks in using the carafe to make a starter as opposed to an erlenmeyer? The erlenmeyer has a narrower mouth but if I put a big enough foil over the carafe, it should be good enough right?

Personally, wouldn't go there...I would stick to the flask or even go with a mason jar. Easier to sanitize and work with than a carafe.

How big is the carafe? Biggest ones I've seen on Amazon are 1L. That might be big enough if you're doing small batches, but you can get a good 2L flask for less that $20 on Amazon.

If it were me, I'd splurge the $20.
