Hello all,

Homebrewer in San Francisco here. Would love to upgrade to a clawhammer-style 10G eBIAB system, but can't quite stomach the price tag of a new one.

So if yours is looking for a new home I'm willing to pay $500 - $700 depending on condition and the included accessories.

If you are missing certain pieces, I'm probably still interested. For example, I don't need the chiller and am happy to do some repair work on other pieces.

My current rig is a Grainfather G30 if anyone is interested in some kind of exchange (would balance with cash).

Thanks for your attention and happy brewing!

Atticus

Check out their newest model AOI 10G system.
Thanks for the suggestion! I saw this option but it doesn't look very different from my Grainfather.

The main reason I like the big Clawhammer is that it's shorter, fatter, and has that really nice fine-micron grain basket. Right now I have to use a grain bag to avoid a clogged pump and I'd like my next system not to need that

I have the G30 and really enjoy it. I have not had any issues with the clogged pump as you have, so I am wondering what we are doing differently. I am in South City so we are pretty close. Just curious so I don't have the same issues as you are having.

So I have developed a process on the G30 where I no longer have clogging and my efficiency is decent. (70%)

I double crush my grain
I use a grain bag within the malt pipe
I wait about 10 minutes for the enzymes to start working before I stir the mash
I hop in a hop spider.

Prior to using the grain bag and hop spider, I would get a pump clog every single brew. The other thing I really dislike about the G30 (and mine is an older model, idk if they fixed this) is that the reset switch is on the bottom and on top of that it's hard to engage. That wouldn't be so bad, as you don't have to hit it very often, except there is no way to turn off the elements that I know of except unplugging the unit. So sometimes when I pump out wort I have to scramble to unplug so the bottom doesn't scorch and require a reset.
On top of all that, the display is really dim and thermometer doesn't seem particularly accurate, leading me to some overattenuable wort before I got the hang of it.

Im grateful for the G30, I got it used for cheap, it's taught me a ton about brewing, I can now brew good beer on it. But I'm looking for a different system, haha.

Why do you drain the GF with the heater on? The is a heat button you could press to turn off the elements

I don't have a heat button. I would love to know I'm missing something here.

Hmmm, yours looks much different than mine. On my Grainfather there is a red toggle switch at the bottom of the unit by the plastic ring that I think controls the heating element. I will try and take a picture later as I have to pull it out to clean it up a bit. As I understand it, mine is version 2?

Did a quick search of the GF website. This is the controller I have on my unit.

Like I said, there is a red toggle switch at the bottom of the unit that I believe controls the heating element, but I have never touched it. I get the wort down to pitch temp, plug the recirc arm back in and direct the hose into my bucket.

Seems as though it should be the right-hand switch set to middle, being neither Mash (single) nor Boil (2 elements) - it looks like a 3-position switch.

Appreciate it! Yeah I have another switch lower down on the unit that controls the second element, but it only has 'mash' and 'normal' as options.

It seems like maybe a way to do it is to set the temp all the way down until the therm turns the elements off (in mash mode).

Anyway, I know this is an old unit, so it is what it is.
