I've been regularly batch brewing kombucha for the past 2 months. However, there was a problem with my recent batch. I checked my kombucha after a week or so and instead of a new SCOBY, there was a very thin dusty, powdery layer which didn't look good. I threw away the tea. I noticed that bottom of my jar also had a powdery layer. What went wrong here? I'm suspecting a mold.

Also, since I threw away the tea, I have very little started liquid left in my SCOBY hotel. What can I add in my next batch as a substitute to the starter liquid?
