UK Lager grain?

I just found a Brewer's Friend IPA recipe that I want to try, but it calls for UK Lager base malt grain (1.4) as its primary fermentable. Would this be something like Marris Otter or just any old 2-row?

Marris Otter would be more of a Pale Ale Malt. At a quick glance, both Baird's and Munton's make a Pilsen/Lager malt.

Lager Malt is Pilsner malt, by UK standards. It is well-modified, but you still need a 90 minutes boil, if you fear DMS. I used it a few times ( from Crisp Malting ) and it's not really different from Pilsner. Very light in colour. I don't think it was really 1.4 L, but close.

Might not be what you're looking for, but Golden Promise makes excellent Lagers. I prefer it to Pils in many cases.

I recently tried a whole sack of Simpsons Golden Promise, even for smash recipes, and it is very good. Can work in Pilsners.

Thanks for the responses-I'm hitting a LHBS tomorrow so I'll pick up one of those. This is for a milkshake-type IPA if that helps to narrow down choices

I recently won a 10lb bag of Baird’s London Lager Malt and it’s quite tasty! Haven’t tasted the kolsch I made with it yet, but the grain itself is quite delicious.

For that style of beer, if you cant find lager malt, definitely go for Golden Promise. I use it almost exclusively in my pales/ipa's and it is truly fantastic for the style.

I live in the UK and the malt I use for most of my pale ales is Maris otter low color, which is a 1.5°L version of Maris otter. Crisp make it as do warminster maltings.
