UK brewers?

Any UK brewers on here? Looks like I'm getting orders to Lakenheath RAF and since I've never been to the UK I was wondering what the brewing scene is like. Are there any LHBS's near the Suffolk area? If not, is it expensive to get grains shipped in? Are there any special laws I would have to abide by?

Haha that tells you how the brewing scene is. This could be a generalization since I only talk with a handful of Brits but I feel like they don't like beer these days and it is more of an old person thing. They tell me that ciders are more popular over there at the moment.

It is stereotype to think that if you are a Brit then you must love beer but we found it really odd in a recent trip to the UK that most of the bartenders couldn't tell us what beer was on tap. They would be like...eh..we have a darker one and this one that is lighter...oh try this one, people tend to drink this one a lot...

The bmc of england "green king" has been starbuckin pubs. buying them up and putting on a set list of drinks, so that there are very few freehouses where someone might serve local beers.

the people here love beer though. i buy grains and stuff from a place downtown quite a few pubs are great, you just have to look hard. no different than stateside where half the bars are filled with people trained to mix drinks not drink beer.

You ****tin me?? Actually you have a real point, the vast majority of 'drinkers' drink mass produced ****e . . . heck some of them think Bud is a premium brand!! However there are a huge number of small craft breweries producing great beer . . a lot inspired by the weird stuff you Americans brew You just need to know where to go. Unfortunately there are very few bar staff that have the passion for beer that we do.

The OP would have had much more of a response to his question if he had posted it on one of the 'British' brewing forums like The Brewing Forum and Jims Beer Kit.

Yeah, they don't have the passion for craft beer the way you do . . . but then it's only in the last 20 years that we have been forced and persuaded that drinking cold fizzy tasteless crap is the best thing since sliced bread . . .You guys are coming out of that deep dark hole
