Hi,
I've been away from brewing for 7 years. I'm ramping back up and have the majority of a 50# bag that is seven years old. I live in a dry climate and the grain has been in the bag inside a large plastic container with a lid. Can I brew effectively with this? I hate to throw it away.
 
If unmilled, it should still be OK, but flavor may have receded somewhat.
I've had malt that old, it was alright, but not spectacular. The resulting beers tasted very fine, but mostly because they were all hop forward.

So if you're brewing a malt forward beer I recommend using fresh(er) malt. It's worth it.
If your old malt doesn't taste stale or worse, use for hoppy beers.

If it was an old bag of flour and you needed to bake some bread, what would you do?
