We are fairly new and haven't made a bad batch yet. I'm trying to figure out if I'm hitting decent efficiency marks. We collected 7.5 gallons pre-boil wort for a 6 gallon batch. 60 min mash followed by batch sparging. Mashed in 5.5 gallons to strike at 164. Hour sit at 152. Sparged with 5.35 gallons at 168. The recipe we made below is for a smoked porter.

9lb 8oz Rahr Two-Row
3lb 3oz Weyerman Beechwood Smoked Malt
1lb 8oz Briess Caramel 80L
1lb 8oz Dark Munich
11oz Weyermann Carafa II
2oz Briess Chocolate 350 L

Preboil Brix 5
Post boil Brix 15

Like the great mayor of NYC Ed Koch used to say, "How am I doing?!?!

This is a rough estimate but I'm coming up with about 68% efficiency.

I'm a little confused though, I don't use a refractometer but the pre-boil brix seems strange. You basically went from 1.020 to 1.060 during the boil? That seems like a huge jump. If I assume 68% eff. I would think the preboil brix to be about 11 or 12.
