not mine mind you. i bought it at the store, it was on sale, and fit my $11.99 for a 12 pack criteria.

anyway, if i were to be blindfolded, and somebody put a MGD, a bud, or a kerz of any kind in front of, i would NOT be able to tell you what was what, just that they all tasted like ass.
this beer (pyramid) tasted like BMC! no difference.
i had my wife taste, and she came to the same conclusion, nasty.
i am left with 10 undrinkable hefe's in the fridge!

we actually broke out my first batch, and drank proudly, and happily!!!!!

first batch = overly hopped, undermalted pale. (5.2lbs of lme, 2 oz of cascade, 1.5 @ 60min, and .5 @ 15 min) in a 5 gal batch.

anyway, my beer tastes good. not superb mind you.... but that hefe will get poured if i cannot find another use!

maybe a beer batter???

any suggestions?

is this considered a decent hefe? if so, i will never try again, and will certainly never brew a hefe! WAYYYYYYYYY cheaper to go and buy a 18 pack of bud.... or...........or....or.......or...

you get the point. 12 bux toward crap, when red hook esb was $14.00. what a waste :"(

Try another one. I don't think you can get it out there but I had a Harpoon UFO tonight that was quite good, and I've had other Hefes that were pretty good too.

Screw that find a good hefe, Erdinger dunkelweissen, Paulaner, Schneider Weisse. Get one from Germany! Make sure you pour it right so its nice and yeasty.

i hear ya, on my 9th homebrew, (this is very low ABV btw..) as i type, with one in the freezer.... but this stuff is crap.
hopefully just a bad brand. bland beer has no place in my home.

then, i find out......... the worst part of all!!!!!!!!!!!

the damned bottles are TWIST OFF!!!!!!!!!!

arrrggghhhh!!!!!

wtf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i cannot even use em to bottle in?

geeeez!

the humanity!

i digress. my nearly frozen homebrew is calling.

Keep in mind there is a big difference between American hefe and German hefe. Pyramid is not a good representation in my opinion. If you want to try a good American hefe, then I would suggest Widmer Bros. They are one of if not the first to brew an American hefe and it wins the most awards.

If you want to try a traditional Hefe, go for the German style. They are way different. Its the yeast in these beers that really characterizes them. Belgian Wit's are very nice as well.

Also, you get what you pay for. If you are only willing to spend 11.99 on a 12 pack. Then you are not going to get very good beer. Try this, look for sales on 6 packs. Most good micros you can find on sale for 7.00-7.50. That way if you don't like them, your only bought 6 and out less money.

Good imports will run you quite a bit more though. My local shop that caries a very limited supply of imports, the bottles range from $3 to $20 per bottle, depending on the rarity and size of bottles.

i might do a mix and match 6 pack with some different ones....

as for my price, well that's on sale. they want 17.99 for this trash regularly....

thanks for the feedback.

I'm not a fan of American Wheats. Technically, an American Wheat is NOT a hefe. "Hefe" means yeast in German. Therefore Hefeweizen essentially means "yeasty wheat".

A Bavarian Hefeweizen will be made with at least 50% wheat malt and weizen yeast. An Amercian wheat will typcially be no more than 40% wheat malt and american ale yeast. Therefore, they both taste VERY different.

If you want a good hefe, pick up a sixer of Paulaner or Weihenstephan

+1 on the German import hefes. I just picked up a sixer of Hofbrau Hefe Weizen and it is very good. Unlike any hefe I've had before, mostly because I have only had American hefes before.

American made Hefe=teh suck.

Dude, try a Ayinger Brau-Weisse, or the Weinhenstaphen Weisse bier. These are representative of a style of beer that is absolutely unique, and can't possibly be compared or confused with a tasteless American macro-lager.

I smell the yeast character out of these beers the second I crack them, before they're in the glass. Cloves, vanilla, bubblegum, banana, and the awesome just below sweet wheat maltiness that is refreshing at the same time.

One of my favorite styles.

American made Hefe=teh suck.

Nah. American STYLE "hefe" = suck.

The first great hefeweizen I had was Golden Gate, from the now-defunct Golden Pacific Brewery. My favorite hefeweizen, currently, is Live Oak, made here in Austin. When you get one fresh, hef is a revelation!

Live Oak doesn't bottle. That is why I started homebrewing. :cross:

or wits... just don't care for those types of beers

I do brew a blueberry & raspberry wheat for family

However, Long Trail's Hef has won awards and SWMBO loves it.

I've tried it and it has the banana & clove notes that are supposed
to be hallmarks of the style... just not my cuppa

My $ .02... YMMV

Don't give up on hefe's op... Seriously. Try live Oak Hefeweizen if you ever get a chance. I promise you won't be disappointed.
