Hello all,
sorry if it has already been debated...

I'm considering to travel for 5 hours with my 2.5 gal unpressurized corny kegg full of a delicious-Weizen ;-D. As soon I get to my location, I will force the carbonation in the beer. Despite the oxidation problem, will I have to concern about leakage problems? Anyone tried this experimentation yet?

Thanks in advance!

Why would it leak? If all of your seals are good, then you shouldn't have a problem. I've traveled with my corny kegs full frequently. Also, why travel unpressurized? Purge the oxygen out with your CO2 and travel with it pressurized. That will eliminate your oxidation concern.

The problem is that my corny is at one place and my cylinder is on the other city. So, for this time, I will not be able to pressurize it. That's why the question... Have you traveled with full, but unpressurized Keg? And I think that for almost 6 hours in contact with oxygen, the oxidation problem will not affect the beer so much, right?

You're putting 2.5 gallons of beer, in a 2.5 gallon keg? If so, that's ok. I'd still rather purge the keg with c02 to remove oxygen, but it should still be ok if you can minimize the sloshing around.

Thanks for your answer Yooper!

Yes, the keg will travel full! Before travelling I will make a test with water just to check the connections...

Thank you all for the advice!

What's a thread without pictures! (off to the party)

Hello Guys,

good to hear from you!

The keg traveled without pressure, with no leaked problem.

I have tested it with some serious shaking before traveling.

All my o-rings are brand new, but I have found that the lid o-ring has serious leaking problems in position X, but none at all at 180 degrees + X: just turned it around and that was perfect, even with some John Travolta moves (in early days)! ;-D

@dnslater, I had no time at all, but thanks for the advice!

@passedpawn, where does your wife travel? :-D

Regards!

When I shake to clean my keg it always leaks. But I'm also not checking that the lid is seated properly and sealed since it doesn't need to hold for long. I also find that it works better one way than the other.

It seems to have worked out for you.
