I just brewed a brown ale a few days ago and with the amount of hop pellets I used I'm thinking it will end up alot more hoppy than your average brown ale. Here's the ingredients I used:

6.6 lbs Amber LME
1 lb DME
1 lb crystal 45
1/2 lb chocolate malt
1 oz. Northern brewer (60 min)
1 oz. Willamette (20 min)
1 oz. Willamette (5 min)
Safale US-05

Did I go a bit overboard with my hops?

I just sampled my American Nut Brown and it was well balanced using the following:

6.6 lbs. Plain Amber Malt Extract
2 lbs. Plain Amber Dry Malt Extract
4 oz. Crushed Crystal Malt 60L
4 oz. Crushed Chocolate
1oz. Crushed Black Patent
1 oz. Willamette Hops (Bittering)
1 oz. Willamette Hops (Finishing).
1 oz. Columbus (Aroma)

This is really close to what I brewed 10 days ago:

6.0 lbs Light LME
1 lb DME
1/2 lb crystal 60
1/2 lb chocolate malt
1 oz. Northern brewer (60 min)
1 oz. Willamette (2 min)
White Labs British Ale Yeast.

Okay so there are several changes... :cross: but I used the same varieties of hops minus the 1 oz. Williamette @ 20 min. Anyway, I took a hydrometer reading 2 days ago and it is quite a bit more bitter than I had hoped (SWMBO prefers less bitter brews). I am hoping the speciality malts will assert themselves more as this ages.

What volume was your boil? Mine was 2 gallon.

You have about twice the IBU used in a Northern or Southern Brown. This puts it into the American Brown style. Not a bad thing, but if you were shooting for New Castle, it's way off.

It seems that yours is a little stiffer than an American Brown, but the IBU's are right in the middle of what they should be.

Looks like I'm at about 40 IBU. If all goes well this should be a fantastic brew. Thanks for the info.
