Ok, this is a completely wild question :ban:

I created my own imperial IPA to brew, with around a 1.095 OG, and will be doing a small 2-3 gallon batch of it since its way to expensive to brew a full 5 gallons right now for me.

However, I want a insanely hoppy beer, like SN Torpedo on crack :D or a DFH 60IPA ran through Randall the Enamel Animal (for those who know what that is).

So...is there theoretically a limit on the hop aroma/flavor after a certain amount of hops are added? I ask because I bought a bunch of bulk hops, and was honestly considering adding a 1/2+ pound :)D:D:D ) to this 2.5 gal batch, for extremeness and to brag about having "over a half a pound of hops per case." :rockin::rockin:

I was figuring on 2 oz bittering, 2 flavor, 2 aroma and 3 dry hop. Will it be a waste, or would I get more flavor/aroma from it than using, say, 5-6oz?

:)

Yeah, there is a limit. They say about 125 IBU is about max.
They say 125 IBUs is the max amount of bitterness detectable by the human palate. As for flavor and aroma I am sure there is a limit but I have seen kits that use 16oz per 5 gallons.

You should look into hop bursting, adding all you hops in the last 20 minutes of the boil.

Try something like this:
Hops
(oz)_Hop_______Boil__IBU
1.00_Centennial__20__41.4
1.00_Centennial__15__33.9
1.00_Cascade___10__15.6
1.50_Amarillo_____7__18.4
1.50_Cascade____5__12.9
1.50_Cascade____3___8.0

total
7.5 oz hops 130 IBUs

I knew about an IBU limit, wasn't sure if there was some sort of max saturation point for hop oil or something like that. Seeing 19oz...makes me think I'll try 9oz for a 2.5 gal batch. :tank::tank:

As for hop bursting...interesting idea...I'll have to read up on that a bit more. Thanks! :rockin:

Forget the 60 min. addition. Instead, do lots of late hops to get your IBU level up there. When you say hop bomb, you're probably thinking aroma/flavor. Start adding at 20 minutes counting down to 0 and then dry hop the hell out of it. You're gonna also need to account for losing maybe 20% of your wort to hop trub.
